I like Lanning a lot simply because he has all of the physical tools and a confident mindset. He could be special with a little more experience and coaching.

I agree with that. I just question if he will ever get that real solid feel for throwing catchable balls on those stops, slants, option routes etc.

In order to be able to be able to have a strong running game you must be able to hit those routes that are effective against the man-to-man coverage. I think Lanning has done well with soft zone coverages, but when it comes to man-on-man I think his timing really struggles....sometimes it takes a player a lifetime to really get that down.

I hope he can, because his running skills are second to none. Heck, I would have liked to see some more QB delayed draws this past season with him. BUT, if this team wants to go bowling in 2016, then our QB will have to be consistently accurate.

A *lifetime*? Seriously?

He was a redshirt sophomore and has now started all of what, 5 games in major college? There's more to being able to do what you are talking about than physically doing it. Practice is one thing but experience is something completely different --- and better.

With these games under his belt, plus now an offseason as likely the leader of the offense to prepare for, I'd expect the 2016 Lanning to look quite a bit different than what we saw in 2015. He missed a lot of throws sure, but that's not like it's complex for a person to fix. This is why we have coaches and recording equipment.

Lanning will be fine. He has all the tools we need in a QB to be successful. It's up to him and our coaches and the players around him to put that into games, and win them.

OT but I cant imagine cyclonereport will last much longer with Alex at scout and Trey at 247. I mean when you click on the football tab it still has the stat leaders from 2012

I was a longtime subscriber at CR, left several years ago and cannot say I really miss it. Between CF and now 247, I can pretty much get everything I want (and more than I have time for) and all for free. If I wanted to pay a little bit more, I think my first choice would definitely go to Scout.

I guess my point, is that Lanning could be one of those kids who just doesn't have that great intermediate throw accuracy (ie Tim Tebow). Tebow could throw in that offense because not only did he have NFL talent around him, but the defense had to think run first at all times.

I am NOT say that he should be second fiddle to a JUCO QB at the moment, but what I am saying is that I woudln't be putting all of 'my' eggs in one basket. With our WR's, it just doesn't make sense to play a QB that is one dimensional (if Lanning can't prove that he can run this new offense efficiently).

ISU is hosting something like 15 official visits this weekend. Bet we'll get at least 3-4 commitments out of it.
Too bad the ISU Iowa game got moved to Thursday. Would've been crazy fun to get them all there for that.

I think a "reporter" reached out to him and got that news. Could be wrong but he's been quoted saying he hadn't heard from anyone on the new staff so decided to de-commit.

He isn't the only one that hasn't been contacted and all have or are considering decommitting as they now consider their offer not valid. I think the norm is that a coach reaffirms the offer or doesn't some call came later than others my guess is all will get called some they are like seeing were they stand with higher priorities first or want to evaluate the tape before honoring the offer. They haven't been on staff that long and their priority was shoring up the guys they know about and like both that have committed to us or have relationships from Toledo. There is only so much time in the day and this staff has done weeks worth of work in a matter of days. I don't blame kids for exploring there options while in limbo but that is exactly the situation.
