Yeah that's one theory. Unfortunately all the old Expanded Universe stuff is kind of out the window with Episode 7.
They tossed all of the EU stuff to not be constrained by all the other stories, but they did say they'd probably take inspiration from some of that stuff. My guess is that KOTOR is old enough and has such a small impact on the films that most of it will end up as lore pieces going forward.
Yeah that is a shame, I liked the KOTOR games a ton. Think I will have to install them and play again.

They can immediately win over everyone to their side if Jar Jar got his head lopped off about 10 minutes into this one.
Also a KOTOR fan and player here. It'd be awesome if they developed a similar game for the new gaming systems. Though it sounds like Battlefront 3 is supposed to be awesome too.
Did any of the play the MMO Star Wars The Old Republic? It's set post KOTOR, the MMO side of it had some issues, but the single player story lines were phenomenal. I think its free to play now.
I'm afraid we are most likely stuck the with The Old Republic MMO. They just had a Revan expansion too.

If you are going to watch all 6 existing episodes, I recommend the following order.
Episode 4 - A New Hope (the original 1977 movie)
Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back
Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace
Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones
Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith
Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi
Watching it in order from 1 through 6 doesn't make any sense because things are revealed in the original trilogy (4,5, and 6) that are implied in the prequel trilogy.
The order I listed above makes episodes 1,2,and 3 and extended flashback to the origins of Anakin Skywalker and then everything wraps up with episode 6!
