So what's a pre-med major like Haughton major in at ISU? Not being sarcastic, that is really what he was planning on majoring in and I don't know what ISU has to offer there besides your normal undergrad core curriculum. Whatever it is, I am happy as hell to have him because he gives us the ability to put him on the DL if need be (and we are always looking for players there). This is another guy the big guns would have gotten had it not been for grade concerns. Hopefully it works out for both him and the Clones.

A lot of pre-med majors take biology. Grades were a big concern and you are right, the big guns wanted him bad. But why take a chance when you can just plug in another great talent that isn't a risk. I just know that there was tremendous excitement when I was told the news that he had in fact made it. 323 pounds of muscle with a 28 inch vertical and he is an incoming freshman.

Since our OL seems to be pretty deep. Id love to see Haughton at DT. He would be a 4 year version of Tuba, minus the cool nickname. We really dont have anyone standing out at DT it seems, so why bury him on the OL depth chart behind a bunch of underclassmen with more experience.

I got the feeling that with the two classes that we have brought in so far that the coaching staff feels pretty comfortable with our players and where we are at. They feel that we have the players in place for a real good foundation. I heard some great things about KO and Baysinger. I am thinking that the reason Schmeling quit was that he would be a senior who was a two year starter who would probably be beaten out by a redshirt freshmen during the year. That is a good thing.

Has anyone heard much about Patrick Mulcahy. He is walking on for ISU this fall. He was wide receiver at Dyersville Beckman. Just wondering how he would stack up against D1 talent. He is my next door neighbor.

I went to Beckman High School (Class of '05) and came back for a few games these past two years when he was on the varsity team. He's a really tall kid with pretty good hands and decent speed. He also seems like a guy who is really focused on the task at hand. Get him into the weight room and work on routes a bit, and I feel that he could be a really good player.

Most pre-med students do indeed major in biology. They also usually do NOT go to the college they plan to go to med school at. A change of scenery is good. Iowa does have a great medical school also. I may bash the hawks a lot, but they do a lot of good in this area.

Also good to see a Cherokee boy on there, although I thought he was considering going to one of the South Dakota schools. I do know that he is fast though.

Haughton made it. I was told by someone who absolutely knows. There were concerns about his grades and that is why we got him. But we took a chance and it paid off. A very big catch indeed. I was also told that we did exceptionally well in landing the DB's that we were after. I noticed that Kennard Banks was on the list on Cyclones.com

I agree on the DBs. Johnson and Benton were great catches...guys that ISU usually does not get. Linder was kind of a sleeper. Land was an athlete that will turn into a Moser-like safety. Banks was a bonus and could help us a lot...at the very least on special teams.

BTW, great catch on Haughton. That's a guy that a bunch of the big names would have been after if his grades were in order early. I have a feeling that this class will end up far from last place in the Big XII when all is said and done.

You would be mistaken about how "deep" our OL is. Perhaps deep in average talent. Chizik said at signing day that the coaches had all agreed to start Haughton out on offense because it was important to seriously upgrade the athleticism of the offensive line. And remember, he's just one step. They'll be looking for more athletic guys to go along with him.

And Jerrod Black, Austen Alburtis, Bailey Johnson and several others have a chance to be real standouts. They're just young.

I was told that actually with the last two years recruits that they were pretty well pleased with our potential on both our lines. It sounded an awful lot like Haughton was going to be an OL first. Because it was said that with his addition combined with KO and Baysinger that we had the foundation for a really great line. It seems that we are much improved on both lines. We are very young. I agree that we aren't really deep. But it looks like our first team of OL and DL will be better than our lines from the last few years.

The only thing I'm concerned about is how long it takes for the light bulbs to come on. But yes, I really like Osemele and Baysinger as well. Now they just need a few more talented friends.

Dominating offensive lines are a good thing.

A FRIEND OF MINE WENT TO IOWA AND HE JUST FINISHED HIS FIRST YEAR OF MED SCHOOL AT DMU. IN HIS 4 YEARS AT IOWA, HIS PRE-MED PROGRAM DID NOT INCLUDE ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY. THAT IS THE DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD.:biglaugh:
