I know Hockey isn't mentioned all too often on this board, which is a shame, but did anyone see the results of the NHL All-Star Game?

Do ANY of the All-Stars actually play DEFENSE???

Game Recap

A 12-9 Hockey game? Come on!

more people watch womens tennis than they watch NHL even the stanley cup not that, its good or bad but its the truth when they went on strike they might have killed their sport

The players didn't go on strike, the owners locked them out. But that is neither here nor there, and it's still a shame more people don't watch the incredible athletes that play this sport.

All-Star games are always high scoring for 2 reasons:

1. Quality of scorers up

2. Quality of defensemen is overridden by the non-physical play

This year may have been 3 goals higher than normal due to the recent rule changes.

While I missed it (I was playing roller hockey tonight, and backstopped my team to a 5-3 win!), this is typical for all star games. I agree with joskvig on the reasons, and all star games always look like roller hockey games due to the lack of physical play (no one wants to get hurt, and the fans want to see wide open play showcasing offensive skills).

Yeah, you guys are right about the offensive skills showcase thing, but wouldn't just kick major a$$ if a defenseman just came out of nowhere and decked someone? That's one of my favorite elements of hockey...it's a shame they don't play that way sometimes.

I didn't watch the game but I half expected Phaneuf to lay a hit on someone like you mentioned, sodakjoe. Roenick did it a few years back and got in hot water about it (but then again, JR lives in hot water...)
