Any chance he sits out a year maybe red shirt? We are pretty stacked aren't we?

Does he have three years left? Could he red shirt?

Glad he's here but of course a silly question I suppose, but did we not recruit him out of high school or was it simply a scholarship situation? It will be an advantage even more with a year here under his belt. Just curious.

Yah, it seems odd, we didn't offer him before, he didn't contribute at Arkansas, but now we take him? Would be a good question for a journalist to ask the head coach. Of all the transfers we have taken, this one is the most puzzling

I believe he MUST sit out a year, per transfer rules. So he won't be on the floor until 2016-2017. I trust Fred 100% when he takes a kid via transfer, but I must admit I'm not as excited as I usually am over transfers. He really struggled to get on the floor as a freshman, so he clearly has some things he needs to improve in his game. That said, if his work ethic is anything like his brother's, Fred knows what his shortcomings are and how to fix them. So while I'd guess he's not going to become a star player...and admittedly I have little information to go on...Fred must believe he will develop into an excellent role player much like Chris was...and is. If he can become a lock down defender like his brother, that would be a great benefit to future teams.

Trusting in Fred's decisions has become awfully easy, even when its a bit harder to know what it is he's seeing in a young player. I'm looking forward to watching Babb grow into a Hoiballer!

Babb will sit and redshirt in 15-16 and then have 3 years to play beginning 16-17.

He'll be eligible the year we look to have our most open roster since Hoibergs first year.

We frankly didn't seem to have any need for a SG this time last year, nor the scholarship freedom we have now.

It is pretty simple imo. We were after better players before, now we have readjusted our recruiting strategy (again) with TJ back and after having little luck getting more highly sought after guys.

If your answer is 100% true, then I think that it is disturbing.

But I don't know that it is 100% true.

Babb committed to Arkansas in August of 2013. At that point, Iowa State really only had 1 spot available and it was being held for Vaughn. Custer had already committed. It's possible (although I'd say it isn't probable) that if he had been a guy that was signing this year, that we would have looked closely at him.

Plus the timing of it wasn't perfect. If Babb had somehow ended up at Iowa State this year, it would be likely that he wouldn't have seen much time. But by coming here now and sitting out next year, Naz will have graduated and it is likely that Monte will be gone.

Not really, last year SG was not a position of need. Now he sits out a year, his first year, Naz and Nader are gone, the year after Matt and Burton are gone. Last year we had BDJ coming off the bench.

Also, he did play behind some pretty good guards at Arkansas a top 20 team, Senior Madden, Juniors Bell and Qualls. So his lack of playing time I'm not worried about, he probably would have got even less here last year.
