Yah, it seems odd, we didn't offer him before, he didn't contribute at Arkansas, but now we take him? Would be a good question for a journalist to ask the head coach. Of all the transfers we have taken, this one is the most puzzling

We had limited openings for him, and less immediate need. Still looked at him. Now he has a year under his belt and another year to learn. It's a great pick up for '16-17

It is pretty simple imo. We were after better players before, now we have readjusted our recruiting strategy (again) with TJ back and after having little luck getting more highly sought after guys.

We were after Vaughn, and thought we had him committed. Nothing to do with some change in recruiting strategy, so you are half correct.

Not really, last year SG was not a position of need. Now he sits out a year, his first year, Naz and Nader are gone, the year after Matt and Burton are gone. Last year we had BDJ coming off the bench.

Also, he did play behind some pretty good guards at Arkansas a top 20 team, Senior Madden, Juniors Bell and Qualls. So his lack of playing time I'm not worried about, he probably would have got even less here last year.

He committed in 2013, before Naz was Naz and while we were recruiting other guards. For instance, we signed Cooke last year with Custer coming in as well as having Naz and Thomas more proven. We were not opposed to adding another guard for last year- Nick graduating in 18-19 as opposed to 17-18 is rather insignificant at this point.

To Goldfinger's question Nick's perceived talent didn't change IMO, our recruiting did. If Clark had been available this year, I think that recruitment goes differently. With offcourt things also at play, we are now open to thinking Noskowiak's talented enough to take a risk on, something previously reserved for transfers with proven abilities.

Some guys on kentuckys bench who don't play at all would start for several schools. It's the same situation as that, to a lower extent. He's a real good addition.

Great add! I hope that he brings the same defensive intensity to the court that his brother became known for. That, plus the swagger. Very excited for this news!! Go Cyclones!!

He's got 18 months to workshop himself, with Fred, and the rest of the team until he could even see the court. He'll be a junior's age by the time he starts playing for us. Has all the physical tools and an excellent fit and situation to step into here. Glad we got him, and I think it will work out.

Granted, a Naz Long development arc is a lot to hope for most of these unheralded guys, but hitting on one every once and awhile and having their personality and leadership is a big plus. I'm glad Fred and TJ are going back to their roots, in some regards, to what got us here:

-talented-but-underrated fits and talents from the transfer market and JUCOs
-3* and 4* talent to form the glue of the roster, develop, and play for 3-4 years (see Ejim)
-rock star transfers who want to prove it and win now (goes well with DeAndre, badly with BDJ)
-a handful of character guys and projects who might be able to develop like a Naz

That business mode and roster construction has us in the top-ten right now--no one-year rentals, as sexy as they might look, but we're going to be playing 3*/4* high school guys next year (Morris, Niang, Thomas), JUCOs (McKay, possibly another post), transfers (Nader, Burton, Cooke), and a development project (Naz Long, who, remember, had the most points on the team in the big win versus Kansas at Hilton).

I can work with that.

Cooke/Thomas/Babb/Burton/Tsalmpouris next year? :v_SPIN:

Our recruiting didn't change, as others stated we had one scholarship open that we were saving for Vaughn. This time around we have 4, and many more the year after. You act like we are lowering our standards here. We're not.

Couldn't be more negative if you tried. Babb was ranked 50 slots higher in the recruiting rankings than Clark.

What? Your post is all about a lower standard now as opposed to 2013 and gave the reason as to why you think we are. We were willing to take a chance on Nick now, likely due to having such a bare cupboard and unlikely being able to fill all 4 spots the type of players we previously passed on Nick for. I am not anti-Nick and I was all for taking a chance him as rising senior, but now it is fairly meh imo.

So? Did I reference some minimum recruiting ranking? The past two years we did not offer, or at least aggressively pursue a lot of high school guys that had the chance to be good Big 12 players. From reading Hines, we will see that change a bit going forward IMO. I would put NN, Babb, and Clark all in that group.

It is you that could not be so negative. Long term a change in recruiting could be good- don't be so insecure about it. There was a real risk behind almost exclusively whale hunting for the bulk of the recruiting season.

And you don't think if we had 4 open spots in 2013 with another 4 or 5 opening the year after, we wouldn't have offered him in 2013? So no, that is not lowering the standard, its a different situation.
