They are still a lot more talented any way you try to spin it.

I'll take that as a no.

...but hey they wear the same uniforms and play in the same stadium as a team that won the Nation Championship 10 years ago, which is good enough for some posters. We beat a 3-5 team with a terrible quarterback.

I hope we're turning a corner with Lanning, but beating Texas isn't anything to write home about. We'll find out a lot more the next couple of weeks and I fear it's not going to be enough.

Three thoughts here:
1. Beating anyone is a big deal after the last couple years.
2. Dominating someone should always be celebrated. That was an awesome performance.
3. This week tells us nothing outside of the last century's norm unless we shock the world for a victory.

Some people are just extremists and can't grasp that just because you aren't the team you were ten years ago doesn't mean you have zero talent. Any time you beat a team 24-0 who has much better recruits than you across the board is a pretty big deal.

This Texas team beat a damn good Oklahoma team. They lost by 3 to an undefeated Oklahoma State team. And lost by 1 point to an average California team.

Texas is not a national championship team. But few teams are. But they are a pretty good team. A team we have only beaten twice in our history. And we shut them out in a dominating performance. That team had beaten Oklahoma and K-State in their previous 2 games. Texas was thought to have gotten it together and was on a roll.

Enjoy the win. Don't try to make it a negative.

I don't think he was trying to crap on the win. I think he was just trying to say that Texas winning a national title 10 years ago means nothing right now since none of their players or coached from that team are still there. Your second paragraph is why our win over Texas is important to the program, not because they have a national title victory to their name.

Mangino had full control of the offense. This year CPR starting voicing things to try to get the offense going, because anyone with half a brain knew we should be running more, passing less, and Richardsons strength was his legs so it was dumb to stop running with him too. Mangino was an awful fit here, and JP wouldn't let CPR promote Sturdy to OC in the first place because of the Messingham mess so they went with Mangino to prevent a meltdown, and didn't expect him to suck.

Link?

If JP wouldn't let CPR promote Sturdy then that doesn't reflect well on either one of them, and the football program has paid the price. Hope things work out a lot better from here forward as Sturdy is off to a good start.

I'm a Paul Rhoads supporter until the Day I Die. In the words of my girl Taylor Swift, "Haters are gonna hate, hate, hate." CPR won some big in-state recruits in the past few years and they are paying off now. Not to mention the hire of Louis Ayeni. And the big time juco recruits. Listen haters, Paul Rhoads is here stay.

Tell me all about how this is "paying off" please. Is it the 0 wins against FBS teams with a winning record this year?

Maybe it's having more wins that last year and the same amount as 2 years ago? JFC, I hope you aren't an Iowa State fan with an attitude like that.

Disagree if we get boat raced in the first half still the same ole Clones.
If we are still in the game starting the 4th quarter, progress.

To start with, Erik and Stormin, I agree with the two of you completely. A win is a win, especially in seasons like the past few. A shutout is even better, especially if its not just Kansas or whatever team we paid to lose to us that year( Unfortunately it seems like Toledo didn't get the message on this.)

As far as what it means for our program however? That remains to be seen. It could be a big thing in the long run if the team builds on it, or it could mean about as much as a win over a #2 ranked OSU has the past couple years. (For those of you following along at home, I'm referring to the crazy extension and raise that was given to CPR that has made him, in the eyes of some, so expensive we can't afford to fire him)

I really hope the team builds on it. I really hope so. I REALLY REALLY hope it isn't just that our guys get all emotional when they are playing for a homecoming crowd at home and are terrible when people aren't there to make them feel good about their plays. I guess we've got 3 games to find out.

Just going by the scoreboard, tonight they did not build on last week. But they were also playing at OU, so I'm willing to give it three more games to find out.

I still think that if we get anything other than 3 W's out of the last 3 games....hell, I'd even settle for 2 wins and a moral victory...but anything worse than that, especially 3 more losses, and Rhoads needs to go. Especially if we can't beat a team of bobkittens or whatever KSU uses as a mascot that has lost the last 5 games.

Fire Rhoads for ****** sake. Hes brainwashed us all into thinking its acceptable to have 3-4-5 win seasons. Iowa puts threatens to fire ferentz over 6 & 7 win seasons.....wtf people, how do we have such low standards??? We need to scrap the entire coaching staff and losing mentality. Hire winners that dont settle for mediocre. Let Paul Rhoads go coach high school football where he belongs.

I get what you're trying to say and I agree. The 'moral victory' does get old after a while, especially without many real victories.

BUT...and this is a big but, I don't think Rhoads is the one who taught our fanbase that 3-5 win seasons are okay. If anything, he's the one that showed most of use that ISU can compete and can make a bowl game. Chizik only had what? 5 wins his entire time here? And we were still furious that he disappeared in the middle of the night.

I'm sticking with CPR, his staff and more importantly his players Till The Day I Die. OU has killed every team since the Texas upset. I didn't expect a victory, but I carried optimism from last week into this game. Disappointed? Sure. Have I lost hope? Heck No! Am I a happy loser? Maybe so. But I will not hate on my Cyclones. Granted, I'm not a donor and don't have skins in the game. Irregardless, the throw away culture of today is disturbing. I will not succumb to this mentality. Why? Because I believe in Loyal Sons for Ever True.
