Now do we have permission from the Hoks to go ahead with the SEZ?

I think the real question is, with iowa's inability to sell out Kinnick, how long until they get around to downsizing the stadium? All those empty seats look really bad on TV. It doesn't make sense for them to maintain a facility that size when they can only sell it out once a year when ISU or Nebraska fans buy up all the tickets.

What will be the next project, I am assuming press box that spans across the west side of the stadium?

They might expand the press box, but I doubt we will ever have one that large. Any stadium that had press boxes that large do so because that's where they put their suites. Unless we need a lot more suites than we already have, that would be building just to be building.

It would take a lot more than the end zone to make JTS nicer than Kinnick. That being said, this project will be awesome.

Older does not = nicer

the concourses in kinnick are about 10' wide. an absolute mess at half or really any time you try to leave your seat. I guess it's great if you get off on rubbing up on strangers

the new scoreboards are way too small. you have to almost search for where it tells you down, yards to go, etc.

there are a good deal of bad seats in kinnick that are too far from the field to see well and the video boards are not big enough to be able to watch them instead in certain places

rows are crammed together. it is very difficult to leave your seat if needed even when people stand for you as you pass.

clearly Iowa has a better press box, although the average fan doesn't get to experience that.

JTS is a better fan experience as far as convenience and comfort BY FAR. JTS has better amenities as far as concessions and restrooms. maybe Iowa just played terribly and the fans weren't into it, but it isn't any louder than JTS IMO. JTS video board and sound is far better. JTS has better sight lines. JTS, once the SEZ is completed will be every bit as "legit" of a football stadium as Kinnick.

Please go on about how great Kinnick is though...

But...But...But...it's old....it's really old, and that means it's awesome, like Lichtenstein. Very old, very well known, very awesome.

I've been to both stadiums. I'll take Jack Trice over Kinnick every single time.

This.

I grew up an iowa fan, went to ISU and have never looked back. Been to Kinnick several times since the renovations and obviously been to JTS more than a few times.

Not sure what Kinnick has that JTS doesn't - save the extra capacity and the fact it's bowled in and enclosed more than JTS - so a bit of a built in loudness. I'm not really one who thinks having the crowd right on top of the field is such a good thing. I've been in those bottom rows and they SUCK. Better off staying home watching it on tv.

I do think JTS has better sight lines over all - and hope that the SEZ does as well. But Kinnick is much, much nicer since the reno's than it ever was when I was a kid. Likewise, JTS is night and day better than it was when I was a student.

Otherwise, Kinnick does have a good pregame scene - but it's more of a mardi-gras mob style. I'll take the tailgate at JTS any day and twice on Saturdays.

Wowsers!! I was merely trying to remind folks of how arrogant and condescending some our Hok friends are. I apologize for upsetting some of you. Please feel free to go back to your thinskinedness and lack of ability to see intentioned humor. I will now slink back into my den.

Yes, I thought it was a good post and loved it. Some day we will be drawing more fans than they do. The pendulum has swung towards ISU.

My thoughts on Kinnick were in my other thread but I honestly thought Kinnick felt small and quiet compared to JTS or hell even TCF bank stadium. The lack of an upper deck to me is the cause of it. When I went to the Big House for the Ohio State Michigan game, it was loud obviously but I couldn't help but notice that it doesn't make as much noise per capacity as JTS.

Kinnick was quiet, honestly, the quietest stadium I have ever been to. I don't think it has anything to do with the fans, they were cheering consistently (until the end) but the setup of that stadium is just something I am not a fan of.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I did like the concourse setup a little more in Kinnick. I don't know what you guys are talking about when you say there are bad sight lines at Kinnick, I thought they were all pretty good (walked around a bit after the game). Press Box is obviously better but I will never be in one so it doesn't really matter to me. Our big scoreboard is better than theirs but theirs is 8 years old. Strongly disliked that fat ribbon board with two small scoreboards on top.

Kinnick is a fine stadium. I would obviously choose JTS over it but if I was stuck with Kinnick for some reason, I guess I wouldn't complain.

ISU may be the only game that Iowa sells out this year. Last I heard, they had about 5-6K tickets for Wisky and NU. ISU on the other hand looks to be opening next year in JT with 2 games that will set the all time record for attendance at JT.

One problem with Kinnick is that a huge percentage of seats are in the end zones. JT has a largere percentage of seats on the sides than does Kinnick. The worst seat I ever had in JT is still better than the best seat I have ever had in Kinnick, and I have been to at least 20 games in Kinnick.

Sightlines at Kinnick are terrible. When sitting near the 50 it's difficult to see either end zone, when on either end it's difficult to see the end zone on the opposite end. Has a lot to do with having "straight" stands that close to the field - makes for terrible sight lines.

People complain about the curved nature to our stands and them being further away from the field, but you can see the entire field from virtually any seat at Jack Trice. Which, IMO, I prefer to being right on top of the action but having my view limited.

I caught the tail end of the morning show on KXNO this morning (felt dirty ever since).

The hawkhomers and a caller were talking about the unlikelihood of sellouts the remainder of the season.

I'm confused by this, and I may have missed a detail, but I thought the caller said the last sellout at Kinnick was Purdue last season? I'm presuming he meant up til last Saturday. So not Michigan, UNI or Ball State. They went on about how slight the chances to sellout Indiana or Northwestern and how bad the ratio will be when NU comes to town in November.

Anyway - had to chuckle at the thought of how for years and years all we ever heard was how our only sellouts were iowa and nebraska. And how now it seems iowa needs ISU and nebby to sell out "historic Kinnick"

For Northwestern sellout, they will need to offer free hot totties, cronuts, and golden bun warmers.

Not to mention that the parking and tailgating outside of the stadiums is far superior at JTS.

they'll likely sell out or come close to for the Neb game, but that's because there will be 30k husker fans in kinnick
