I heard someone on the radio TRY to say that Mariano Rivera is the better "At his one job in sports" than any other athlete to have played any sport. Meaning he is so much better than any closers, ever compared to say Michael Jordan and other shooting guards. It's hard to argue against it... Mo is a class act all the way around.

I'll first disclose that I've hated the Yankees all of my life.

I haven't enjoyed having my social media feeds blown up about how great and classy Mariano Rivera is all night. Here are a couple of things you may not know about him:

1. He doesn't care for the song "Enter Sandman" it was just selected by Yankee's staff in an attempt to copy other teams that had cool entrance music for their closers.

2. If he was SOOO classy, he would have changed his number in 1997 and retired Jackie's 42 with the rest of the league.
I KNOW he didn't HAVE to do it based on the rules, and he wasn't the only player that kept 42. But isn't changing your number the right thing to do in that situation? It just doesn't scream class to me.

He's a great closer, that's about it. Enter Sandman is Virgina Tech's entrance song, not his.

End of rant.

A Twins fan lecturing another teams fans about the class of one of their "Heroes" is laughable...

Haters are going to hate, Rivera is a first ballot hall of famer, you would love to have him on your team.
27 World Series titles, deal with it.

Ex-Twin Joe Nathan looked to have given Rivera Joe's gameball from the save. Pretty classy move by Joe that is probably more representative of the Twins than fans like the OP who seems to take joy in someone getting a ACL injury.

BTW, the chair of broken bats that the Twins thought of and made for Rivera was pretty clever. Most of these farewell tour tributes get a little sappy and silly and all but the Twins hit a homerun with that.

Now I am just awaiting the OPs next rant that Canos parents insulted Jackie Robinson by naming their boy Robinson and that his #24 that he says is #42 backwards is also an insult. And news is Cano isn't hurt too bad by the HBP and will likely play Friday which is probably disapointing to those that like to see people injured.

You're right. There is nothing I hate more than a guy that comes from poverty to become one of the greatest baseball players to ever live, all while being incredibly professional, never being linked to PEDs, staying faithful to his wife, being a devout Christian, donating millions to charity and being reverred by all of his peers. Sports needs less guys like this.

We have an NFL player arrested for murder, MLB getting ready to ban dozens of players for taking PEDs, Jason Kidd just pleading guilty to a DUI weeks after being hired as a head coach, and this is the axe you want to grind?

Speaking of the Twins...How many ex-Twins played last night? Sheesh.

I also hate the Yankees but understand that Mo is a surefire 100% (the only one thusfar) HOF inductee. I respect him.

To the Twins credit that rocking chair was pretty awesome, and I don't see another team topping that.

I just was surprised that a guy who you know rooted for Kirby Puckett could call someone else out for being classless (over a number of all things). I mean we all root for teams that have guys who do bad things off the field, and as someone who cheered for Willie Wilson I sure as hell won't rant about the classiness of a guy who chose to keep wearing the #42 out of respect for Jackie Robinson.

It amazes me that every single hitter that dug into the box last night (and every night hes taken the mound) knew exactly what he was going to throw and none of them could hit it. Guy has been 100% class all while being the best to ever do something.

Below is why I can agree with that:
It amazes me that every single hitter that dug into the box last night (and every night hes taken the mound) knew exactly what he was going to throw and none of them could hit it.
For 16 years he's thrown the same damn pitch about 90% of the time and he's still damn near unbeatable. He's lost velocity and gone from upper 90s to the lower 90s and he's still arguably the best closer in baseball.

And the rocking chair from the Twins is nearly impossible to beat.

The rocking chair was a great tribute! Also I love Rivera's idea of sitting down with the support staff workers at each ballpark and getting to know them and thanking them for the job they do instead of having a highly public retirement tour, the guy is as classy as they come!

As a Yankee fan, I don't understand how anyone could hate Jeter or Rivera. Classy players and guys. I hate A-Rod though.

Nope. Jeter lost "classy" we he convinced the home plate umpire he got "HBP" and was allowed to take his base, when replay clearly showed the ball never touched him. Can't say I hate him, but he lost classy then in my book.

I just saw his wife for the first time last night on television. I thought it was his mom. Not what you would expect from a megastar. Props to Mariano, just seems like a really good guy.

The Yankees started using "Enter Sandman" long before the Hokies did. The only other cool one that existed that I can remember back then was Trevor Hoffman with "Hells Bells."

But hey, good job, good effort.

Quoting Wikipedia's note about Trevor Hoffman & Hells Bells as your own memory. I'm not fooled.

But hey, good try, good effort.

I honestly like Cano. I also have no problems with Jeter. They both are classy. Wearing 24 to honor Jackie Robinson is a valid tribute. Thinking that Jackie Robinson would be honored for you to continue wearing his jersey after every team in the entire league retires it is arrogant.

Let me understand.. since I rooted for Kirby Puckett, I can never again call someone classless. Makes sense.

I have one thing to say for all you Rivera *** kissers: Rivera kept wearing 42 because he is a arrogant, and didn't want to give up his number. He's first ballot hall-of-fame & I don't question that, but that doesn't compare to Jackie Robinson and the things he did for major league baseball. Rivera should be humble enough to give up his number for that. #BeWell

Old, ugly wife = class. Okay, keep going, I'm taking notes.
