So Herman has top talent and was struggling to beat Iowa? You guys make me laugh with this stuff. Herman had some good games at ISU, but not many of them. He wasn't a great OC either and at OSU has not been impressive. Their offense was terrible last year.

Uhh, I'd give my left testicle to have 19 consecutive wins, unimpressive OC and terrible offense or not. Talk about their weak schedule, whatever, don't care, I'd still give my left testicle to get 19 straight wins.

Rhoads is a man that is known for being pretty classy.

Mangino is not.

I'd take Mangino, but don't see Rhoads wanting him on the staff.

I think Mangino has changed. He took time off to get himself straight and is easing back into the game. I would take him in a heartbeat.

I doubt Herman is making the calls at tOSU. Besides, with those players, anyones system can look good. We need someone that can make OUR players look good in their system....Herman really didn't accomplish that while he was here either.

Tom Herman, Ohio State
Buzz:
Outside of Ohio State, Michigan and Nebraska, all of which finished in the top 20 nationally, the Big Ten had a lackluster recruiting season. There were, however, several impressive individual recruiting performances, making the title of the Big Ten's best recruiter hotly contested. The job that Herman, Ohio State's offensive coordinator, did by going to Texas and grabbing three of the state's top 20-ranked prospects, including five-star linebacker Mike Mitchell -- Texas' No. 1 ranked prospect -- gets the nod as this year's most impressive feat. While Mitchell was a monumental pull, convincing Rivals100 running back Dontre Wilson to leave his Oregon commitment, spurn the in-state Longhorns and come to Columbus to play slot receiver was more impressive. Add four-star quarterback J.T. Barrett to his total, and even though Herman did not get to pad his stats with in-state pickups, his was the Big Ten's best in 2013. - See more at: Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Rivals.com top recruiters: Big Ten

For whatever team may need them, I suspect these three might be available at the end of the year

1 Norm Chow-proven OC, home run hire. Won't survive at Hawaii as HC
2.Dana Holgerson-proven OC but days may be numbered as HC at WVA. Another home run hire as OC
3. Todd Monken-former Okie State OC, may not survive as HC this year
Other strong candidates:
Ed Warinner-former OC under Mangino when KU made it run, now at Ohio State
Mark Mangino-former KU head coach.

I've always thought he is the most overrated coordinator there is. He was called a genius when he had those great players at USC, but hasn't sustained that success anywhere else he has been

We have many issues

I think CPR is going to have a few tough calls during the off season
  1. Our offensive staff overall is not showing much. Messingham's playing calling is predictable.
  2. I know our o-line has been dinged this year, but their play has been pathetic. I thought the new o-line coach would make:a huge impact, but it seems like we are worse. What's scary is our talent evaluation might be the bigger problem.
  3. Our defense has no identity. Bend/don't break only works if your defense can stop the opponents run game. Our front seven just isn't physical enough. We need to get bigger at DE and need a couple starting LB's in the 230/240 range.
I realize we are young, but that is no guarantee of future success

There better be a change coming tonight or tomorrow. If not, I will have lost all faith in Rhoads.

Rhoads probably won't fire someone midseason. He has said he is not a fan of getting rid of coaches during the season because it can split the locker room.

Fine. Switch Sturdy to OC, Mess to WR coach and let's go. Hit the Easy Button CPR! Mess might be a good position coach. Over his head, big time as OC.

I agree with this. Im ok with letting Mess ride the year out. But, he simply must be replaced after this season. I dont even think thats a radical thought. Or kneejerk reaction. Mess may be a good coach, who knows, but something clearly isnt working. Like the Greg Mcdermott tenure.

One name I am surprised I haven't heard yet is Austin Flynn. He is really doing well over and Grandview.

I wouldn't be firing anyone mid-season, but I certainly would be giving Sturdy a chance to call the plays in the second half. We certainly cannot do worse than we have to this point. I think it's obvious that we need a real QB coach, and I don't know what that means for Messingham. I think our RBs have been really mishandled as well, but I haven't really felt that way until this season. I think you'll see one or two leave after signing day this year, kind of like Wells last year.

Rhoads needs to do this, just for credibility reasons. They all know the drill - it's part of the coaching profession. Every trainwreck season has to have a fall-guy or two to be the scapegoat, some incompetent we get to run out of town on a rail. It lets us have a clean slate and temporarily allows us to rationalize a reason for hope, even if it's mostly emotional, and the new guy maybe might not be any better than the guy who was chased off.

To echo comments already made, I think Sturdy could be a really good play caller for us. If Rhoads doesn't give him a chance now, there is no way to know that. Let him have full control of the play calling duties the rest of the season and see how it goes.

Mark Mangino or bust. He has changed and he is working hard at getting healthier. Rhoads will only be as successful as his assistants and right now some are doing okay and some are absolutely failing at their job period.

I am very much okay with this for the rest of this season, but still look hard at seasons end for a proven OC (Mangino).

Our OC might be available after this season. You guys want him?
No Poke, we will not take him. Didn't he come from Division 2 or something? I still think OSU has 2 very good QB's, this year is not showing it though.

I listen to the Sports Animal via iHeart pretty much every week day morning. Bob Berry JR and coach Jones are a great listen IMO. I think they are wondering what is going on with the OSU offense too. All signs point to the OC. Join the club! At least your defense is big and fast which helps your team out.
