Big 12 spring recruiting capsules - ESPN

Iowa State Cyclones
Who they have:
The Cyclones have collected just one commitment, but it's a big one -- from wide receiver Allen Lazard (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale School), the state's No. 2 prospect and 33rd-ranked recruit nationally at his position. The 6-foot-5, 203-pound Lazard accepted the Cyclones' offer in December to start this class with a bang. He had offers from Iowa, Nebraska and Stanford, among others. Lazard caught 11 touchdown passes and accumulated more than 900 receiving yards as a junior.
Who they want: ISU missed on the state's top prospect, Iowa-committed offensive guard Ross Pierschbacher, 47th in the ESPN 150 and No. 1 nationally at his position out of Cedar Falls High School. In Ames, more than most places, a recruiting class doesn't come into focus -- publicly, at least -- until later in the year. But credit Iowa State for aiming high, with offers out to elite players in Texas (defensive end Myles Garrett of Arlington Martin), California (tight end Tyler Luatua of La Mirada) and Florida (receiver Artavis Scott of Tarpon Springs East Lake). Closer to home, the Cyclones covet defensive end Dewayne Hendrix of O'Fallon (Ill.) Township, guard D.J. Foster of Lincoln (Neb.) Southeast and defensive tackle Peyton Newell of Hiawatha, Kan.
Spring storyline: ISU made a push in spring practice to better feature its athletes on both sides of the ball. Prospects like Tommy Mister (Chicago/St. Rita), who made an extended visit to Ames, seemed to like what they saw.
Bold prediction: It's not over with Lazard. He's open to making an official visit or two next fall, particularly out West, which might change his perspective on staying close to home.
Scouts' overall trend: Up. Things may not be trending up in a big way for the Cyclones, but under Paul Rhoads it's moving in the right direction. Their classes have continued to get a little stronger each year, and their 2013 class consisted of a four-star offensive tackle prospect out of Florida in Shawn Curtis and a top 25 QB-PP in in-state prospect Joel Lanning. Their 2014 class consists of one verbal at this time, but Lazard is a good start as the Cyclones try to take another step forward on the recruiting trail.

ESPN doesn't know what they're talking about!!! Except when they do!!!

I said the write up is garbage. I didn't refer to all of ESPN in this case even though most agree that ESPN does suck in general. Comprende?

Did a little research: QB before McGuire in his HS was Lance Baretz, now a WR for Wisconsin. Baretz passed for 7,048 yards & 75 TDs & ran for 2,524 yards & 38 TDs in his HS career running a spread offense.

McGuire had 1400 yards passing with 14 TDs & 300 yards rushing with 8 TDs as a junior. The Baretz kid is 5'11" & McGuire is 6'3". Found Youtube right here:
I watched the video a couple of times, the kid has quite an arm. You don't see many people throw like that, with just the flick of a wrist. It'll be interesting to see if they offer him. You'd think that a QB with a big arm would like the thought of throwing to Lazard. And Bundrage. And Daley. And...

The bold prediction is very bold. Their rankings suck. The rest I could have written in 5 minutes.

Pierschbacher is the #1 recruit in the state: Very debatable
Cyclones aiming high on recruits: Translates to "Aww, how cute that you think they will come to lowly 'ol Ames."
Lazard will decommit because he has other visits out west: See above
Highlights from last class are Curtis and Lanning: I'd put my money on Campos, Bibbs, or Wimberly.

That's pretty much how I understood most of that. I don't understand how rivals has Lazard as the top WR and they rank him 33rd and the whole "aiming high" comment is just degrading
