The current list of immediately eligible 4s & 5s from the JC and Grad Transfer pool is extremely underwhelming like it was last season.
.

Agree, it's still pretty slim pickings for grad transfer bigs.

Mark Donnal. Jeremy Combs. Kameron Rooks. Sean Obi.

All names I think we would maybe look at but not sure if any would be much better than what Holden gave us this year

As of now our Plan B would be throwing Lard to the fire a la Solo last year and know that it'll be worth it for the following year.
Would it be worth it? We may not have a choice, but I don't think getting Lard better for 18-19 is worth going into next year without a better option.

I don't disagree with you. But as you say, options are thin for grad transfers. This is the last year of the Hoiberg effect - struggling from missing on bigs. I know that's a spooky word around here, but it's true.

I actually feel pretty good about a group of Solo, Lard, and Kasongo. We showed we're pretty functional with a only a young Solo last year as our true "big", and with the guards we'll have next year I think that can continue as we ease Lard in. Kasongo appears to be a good athlete that will at least protect the rim - something we haven't had at all in a while. Now adding Juiston....that'd feel real nice. I think it happens, too.

That's optimistic imo. Burton made made that work last year, along with having 3 very good senior guards.

Saying it's worth to me implies a choice or preference. It's not worth it, but it does have positive externalities.

ISU was never involved but maybe hurts them with Morrow scholarship wise?

Yeah not sure about their scholarship situation. KU was interested in him at one point though. So that narrows their focus to Juiston even more. We will find out soon as well if they are interested in Tilmon.

Quick Look at X's scholarship chart has them at 13 w/ Bluiett (who testing the NBA waters).
Morrow landing at ISU due to Ernst committing to X will be a trade I'd make. Be an Ironic and fun comparison to watch. Other than having to watch Ernst threads pop up 4 times a year.

Burton made having one big work. Next year, we'll have three bigs that can rotate between two positions, as a worst-case scenario.

Like we had three bigs in Holden, Young, and Carter at the beginning of the year? Don't get me wrong, I'm optimistic on Lard, and Kasongo can't be worse than Carter, but on offense Burton and Young are far superior to that threesome and potentially on defense and rebounding.

Counting Carter is disingenuous, at best. He was never going to be a contributor. Lard has a lot of talent, but we don't know what we'll get from him, and reports are mixed on Kasongo. Either way, we're sitting better at forward with those three than with just Young and Holden. Obviously, I'd like to get Juiston, but we're already better off at the true forward position than last year.

Reports are mixed on Kasongo? I may have missed it, but what reports have been positive on Ray? I'm hoping otherwise, but he's probably Holden that on some nights can be Edozie.

Are we sitting better at the second forward spot? Only if you count Burton as a guard, even though he defended the post. Don't get lost in the taxonomy. The point is saying we're better by using conventional size in labeling positions doesn't really translate to being better. Burton and Young are likely a better duo than Young and Lard/Kasongo. Call Burton whatever you'd like but given it's a Lard/Kasongo for Burton swap, we're not likely improving there. Burton is better at forward things than freshman Lard, plus spaced the floor better.

Somebody said last month that there were reports that Kasongo had looked good in practices and that ISU stopped recruiting Lake from IWCC because they were similar players.

That's sounds like a good theory, albeit not a report. We're also only going after Juiston. We used a redshirt on him so hopefully he's at least Edozie level
