Buggs would be a great option for ISU. He is better than the four that transferred out by far and fills a role of handling the ball. If he played with pace, I could see him leading the Big 12 in assists next year.
He’s better than Beverly types, but this is very optimistic.

Even with transfers you don’t know until the season comes. Fit is important.

Transfer Guard Stats.png With the very important caveats that stats only tell part of the story and each statistic has its own strengths/weaknesses in what it measures (e.g. assist rate depends a lot on supporting cast, some of the more "advanced" metrics like PER/BPM have some blind spots with measuring defensive ability, etc.) I compiled the following metrics for various guard transfer targets from sports-reference.com just so that it was in one place for me to look at. Also included Bolton, Jackson and Deandre Kane for comparison's sake. Figured I'd share just for fun - I obviously wouldn't base my opinion completely on what's presented here, but thought it was at least an interesting place to start because I admittedly haven't seen a lot of these players play.

I've included Height/Weight, True Shooting %, 3 point %, Free Throw Rate, Assist %, Turnover %, Assist-to Turnover Ratio, Total Rebound %, Steal %, Usage, Win Shares per 40 minutes, Box Plus Minus, and PER. The first line for each player is this past season's stats, the second line is their career to date. I put this together really quickly, so apologies for any errors that get caught or for not including a stat that someone might find interesting

Obviously everyone will come up with different interpretations of these measures by assigning different importance to different aspects of a players game - somebody might place a higher emphasis on shooting, another on playmaking, rebounding, etc.

I think people also need to remember that Kane was like 23 when he was at Iowa State. He just bullied his way to the lane and was open because he had shooters around him. I think Kane is the exception not the rule.

He was hurt

Yep and likely forced into playing earlier than he should have been with NC roster last year. Would be an upside target assuming he recovers to his prep play.

@CBB_Central This will be an interesting one to track. Francis had some moments as a freshman, but the shotmaking was just not back after so many injuries in HS. A redshirt year would do him well, but he has star potential.
@CBB_Central Yes, Francis shot 23% from the field on the season. That is... bad!

But he’s big and physical and he makes things happen when he’s on the floor. A year to get his touch back and he could be scary. Former elite recruit before HS knee injuries.

Monté Morris was so good his senior year. He was so underappreciated.

Pictures with a bunch of random kids makes you happy?

Is Harris a smaller Wigginton? If so, is there a lot of overlap with Bolton?

All three of them are basically SGs trapped in PG bodies. Harris it he smallest of them, though all three have a nice burst and shooting ability.

not at all, just stating what i observed.... I don’t know if Harris is a smaller wigginton or not, and there could be some overlap between Harris and Bolton, but I would take him if we could land him right now. Quality depth won’t hurt one bit right now and I would think Harris’s floor is at the very least quality depth right now

I thought/hoped he was a pg based on his recruitment, but his numbers and tape at Memphis suggest you’re correct. As a small shooting guard he needs a longer/bigger pg. It’s interesting how he was an either/or with Haliburton, as Haliburton would be perfect with Harris. Maybe that can be Walker.

If managed correctly, can’t hurt to have two capable, if not similar scorers! But In terms of meeting needs, my excitement for impact is tempered a bit.

Harris would be a great offensive weapon off the bench. I don't really care if he is a 'pure' pg. Those kind of labels really don't matter anymore.

What’s a true pg?

We have 4, so Harris should be a take. I don’t think anyone cares whether he’s a labeled a pure pg, but they do care that he seems to lack enough in pg attributes that he isn’t likely be a starter alongside Bolton. Getting a 5’9” shooter off the bench can be worth the redshirt, but at one time that role wasn’t the view on Harris

You'd be disappointed if Prohm lands Buggs?
I can't speak for the poster you quoted, but it doesn't move the needle in getting me excited. Averaging 9 ppg in the Big West as a junior isn't a guy who's going to move the needle for a struggling Big 12 team. Hopefully 1 of our open spots is a much bigger land.

Haarms to BYU. Thank God Tech didn’t get him.
Thanks - this made my day. I'm sick of TTU & their sudden success since Beard became their coach (I long for a return to the days of Tubby Smith - a decent coach with a program of average success at best).

PG for Steve Prohm means the guy who receives the high ball screen. I think he likes a scoring first PG or a guy who has the ability to do so. Tyrese was great but he wasn't ideal for what Prohm likes to do IMO, either was NWB but Babb was surrounded by 3 other guys who could create their own shot so they didn't rely on the PnR as much.

We saw last year that you can have the best "pure" PG out there and he'll struggle if he 1. can't create his own shot 2. doesn't have shooters to pull defenders out of the lane (which impacts shot creation). So IMO Prohm wants a team full of shooter/scorers to put around a guy who is going to distribute or an aggressive, score first type of PG if he doesn't have those shooters. The latter was essentially what we saw him doing with Bolton near the end of the season prior to his injury. I think unless we bring in a couple of capable shooters, he'd rather try again with Rasir than bring a Buggs type of PG in.

I started a Francis Thread but I can move this here. Hate to see him leave Chapel Hill, but always thought he'd be a good fit in Ames.

He's a hard nose player, very blue collar type player. My wife and I always talk about trading players who'd be better at our other school... We both figured him as an Iowa State type player.

This I believe is a Free Article, but really highlights the type of kid he is.

As far as Game.... He's a bulldog, plays a lot bigger than his 6'0 height, but he was still decent at getting into the lane. He's was still rehabbing his injury and working on conditioning. Didn't get to see the best of him this year, which could be said a lot about Carolina all the way around.
