And Peter King is reporting the Vikings are really wanting to trade back. Trader Rick's past history would support King. Spielman might gamble that either Vera Tucker or Darrisaw will drop below 14.

It's pretty much a guarantee every year that Spielman wants to trade back. And without a 2nd rounder this year it really makes sense to do that and try and pick up a 2nd. Problem is you have to find someone who wants to come up to 14.

I think the trade up is just smoke. Unless Sewell, Slater and Darrisaw all fall past 7 or 8...than who knows.

And I agree about Vera Tucker. I think that's their plan at 14. And I suppose if those other 3 fall past 7 or 8 that may mean they stick at 14 because they're guaranteed to get 1 of the 4. I'm all over the place.

Who the eff knows? That's why I love the draft!

Pelissero threw it out there that the Vikes may try and trade up...tough to believe that.

Reading that article just convinces me more that they need to do whatever they can to trade back and try and pick up a 2nd rounder. Hopefully a couple of the QBs slide to 14 and someone like Washington really wants one. Although I'm not sure moving up 5 spots would get a 2nd rounder. Maybe Chicago will get desperate enough to grab one...they make poor decisions. :D

If one of the top QBs is there, gotta take him. Lance?! Stuck in Mediocreville with Cousins.

I bet they trade back, though. Would actually agree this year if not a top QB or Sewell/Slater there.

Done. I have a feeling now they’ll wind up with someone like Phillips, plus a second rounder after some more deals.

I would think the talking heads will give Spielman a pretty good grade for round 1.

Selfishly I was really hoping Fields would fall to the Vikings. I don't think it will be fun playing him twice a year and think he could end up being the second best QB from this draft.

However, I do love that Rick was able to trade back, pick up ammo to get back into the 2nd round, and get the guy they probably would've taken at 14. Overall good first round.

Unless something has changed, I don’t think we have a 2nd round selection.
Edit: NM. I see what you’re saying now.

Who’s left for OL? I think we got our guy but lord knows we need help there and more big men is clearly necessary in this draft to me.

Also, I thought we may have been able to jump the Chargers with capital to pick Slater. But getting 2 3rds back for a 4th and sliding back was a really good move to get back into the second round. Especially when 1 of those 3rds is the second pick in the 3rd.

With 4 3rd rounders and 4 4th rounders, I would actually love to see them get back into the 2nd round twice. Last year they drafted quantity with 47 picks. This year, go get quality that is going to make an immediate impact. Another O-lineman, D-End, Safety. There is still day 1 quality in all 3 positions that can be had.
