So we are comparing this kid to Niang? That's some pretty big shoes.

We also had some high flying athletes on Niangs teams too (Ejim and McKay).
I’m not comparing just back in the day folks said Niang had that old man YMCA game. I’m for that, but ya need some high flyers like you said. Hopefully we score some in the portal.

Given the nature of college basketball now, and rosters being so year-to-year, I am curious as to how much of an ideologue TJ is either way. I think we'll always recruit for good culture, but that's not synonymous with defense. You can have good culture and be just okay on defense with guys like Georges. How we managed the frontcourt this year, is notable, but perhaps not a sign of things going forward.

Building a good defense is about creating the culture of toughness and buy in. Look around some of the best college defenses and it is less about getting great athletes or great defenders, but guys who will buy into playing great defense.

Look at programs like UNI, Virginia, Wisky (of old), etc. I wouldn't consider those schools having great shot blockers or athletes, but their players were taught defensive principles that allowed for great team D.

So when TJ is looking to bring guys in this spring, I don't think being known as a great defenders is critical, but guys willing to play great defense.

We;; yeah, TJ wants coachable players and guys that care. Best to recruit that than try to coach that.

One generally needs to have a good basketball culture to be elite on defense. You also need to prioritize it in roster and lineup/PT decision making, unless at a blueblood. So, although we know TJ's objective over the last 12 months was to build the culture he wants, even as going as far as alluding to not caring about what that meant in W/L, we could see him be amendable to styles of play. Because, at some point, W/L will be the co-objective.

I expect they'll be more open to leaning offense than we saw this past year.

Toussant is a crappy version of Hunter. Except Hunter was a freshman with a high ceiling and Joe was a 3rd year player making dumb freshman turnovers.

True but he also never got to play full games because Connor had to get his 25 minutes and Ulis 10 minutes. I think a coach that would have started him and got him game time and coached him would have really helped him
