Walker Zimmerman is fine. He had a bad moment - yes - but the man has been our best center back - or at least top 2.

And Brooks? I like Jon Brooks but I might possess more speed than he does. There's a reason the man doesn't play much anymore. I'd have brought him for the experience and leadership he provides and his physicality - he would have been good to have to bring in against Kiefer Moore etc - but the idea that he improves our speed and athleticism is rather funny.

He's played twice all year for Benfica.

Who we really missed is Miles Robinson and Chris Richards. I really liked the Zimmerman and Richards pairing.
I by no means said we need the current Jon Brooks in this side. But Brooks at the top of his form is exactly what this team needs. A tall big body that can win in the air and is always calm and collected in the back. Zimmermans moment of panic cost us points. That was on him.

Even with that offsides, Germany's passing is so pretty to watch. The few times Japan has applied high pressure, Germany just dissects them.

It feels like Japan is holding the flood gates back admirably but its just a matter of time before they burst open.

Germany was sleep walking a bit to start the half. Japan has started to show some life and started attacking the passing lanes. Japan is swarming right now.

Both of these teams play a different sport than the US. Their touches are infinitely better. Tactically, it is so much better.

Because we play the formation Germany played in 2006. That’s how far behind we are. That’s also why Gio Reyna isn’t playing. He’s good enough, our formation just doesn’t allow for him.

Germany ran a classic 4-4-2 in 2006, we're running a 4-3-3.
