I never understood why anyone gets excited about tornadoes, or severe storms? All I can think of is all the pain and suffering some are feeling because they lost their house, or even someone they loved possibly. I hate tornadoes and severe storms myself.

I think for most who are its simply an awe of nature thing.

Upper-level low pressure center very close by, so lots of upward motion (and that spiraling movement you're seeing on radar), there's a deep layer of moisture in the atmosphere, and the steering winds are pretty weak, so cells aren't going to move much.It's as if the rotation of the whole weather system is causing the cell to "hover" over Ankeny/alleman
