To those wondering what constitutes as a "school day" on early release days for Iowa:

12.1(9) Minimum school day. A school day shall consist of a minimum of 5½ hours of instructional time for all grades 1 through 12. The minimum hours shall be exclusive of the lunch period. Passing time between classes as well as time spent on parent-teacher conferences may be counted as part of the 5½-hour requirement. The school or school district may record a day of school with less than the minimum instructional hours if emergency health or safety factors require the late arrival or early dismissal of students on a specific day; or if the total hours of instructional time for all grades 1 through 12 in any five consecutive school days equal a minimum of 27½ hours, even though any one day of school is less than the minimum instructional hours because staff development is provided for the instructional professional staff or because parent-teacher conferences have been scheduled beyond the regular school day.

They do need a good editor. Bolded text is one sentence. A nice bullet list would be helpful here.

Have most schools switched to going by hours instead of days at this point?

Why even have them go then?

Wish they had taken advantage of the infrastructure setup during Covid to have a way to do school from home rather than cancel class for weather.

It likely counts as a day so it's not made up.

Also, some routines etc. can still be practiced/implemented even if a shorter time.

Doesn't quite beat my record. I went to the OG Novak Elementary at Linn-Mar. Did not have A/C, old brick three story building. Insanely hot on the top floor where I was at this point. School started at 8:45 and at 8:50 they announced a dismissal at 9:15. They knew they were going to do it to get the day to count so the busses did not even leave.

When I attended that Novak building at LM it was 5th and 6th grade.

Sirens just went off. Serve thunder storm warning for Mpls and west.

Almost didn't hear the sirens with TV tuned up so I could hear baseball game while cooking in da kitchen. Windows are obviously closed since it's tropical jungle humid outside.

Who invented modern air conditioning?

And why isn't their birthday celebrated as a national holiday?

Willis Carrier. After starting in New York City he moved to Syracuse,New York where his company really took off. The Carrier Dome at Syracuse was named in his honor. The Carrier Dome didn't have air conditioning when it opened, not sure if that's still the case.
