Happy making about 20 mil. If you replace Happ with Caissie you have another 19 mil to resign Tucker. So the question really isn’t Happ or Caissie? It’s actually Happ or Tucker?
No reason Cubs can't sign Tucker, they will get Pressly and Turner off the books which is around $17M..

If the Cubs are confident Steele will return by the All-Star break they could also trade away Taillon's $18M salary as well. Plus the Happ $ you mention & Tuckers 2025 $16.5M, that's potentially $70M to spend on: Tucker, a stud SP, plus...

Based on the tea leaves I’ve sifted through, Cabrera remains priority #1, Iglesias is a relief name to watch, and Willi Castro is more likely than Eugenio Suarez. The Suarez news that came out tonight was likely Diamondbacks leaking info to push non-Cubs teams to make a bigger splash

Disappointing that we haven’t found a deal to replace Brown. Hopefully it’s because the guy we can get later this week is that much better than what we can get now

Feel like there has been very limited movement across baseball. IMO coming into All-Star break I felt there were 8 sure sellers with the expanded Wildcard. And then a division leader Detroit goes in a tailspin and gives hope to a hot Cleveland team. And makes KC & Minn pause.

Plus GM's do not want to send message to their Clubhouse and fans they are giving up on season. til last moment.

And maybe selling GM's know deals get better at end.

Most deals get done at the deadline as selling teams will wait out and see if someone will flinch and up their offer to what their ask is. Most deals done in advance of the deadline are either there is not as big of a market for that player so the selling teams knows that is the best they are going to do or a team is willing to overpay a bit to get the deal done sooner than later. Perfect example of this is the Yankees trading for McMahon. I doubt there was much of a market for McMahon given what is left on his contract and judging by what the Yankees gave up to take on that contract so the Rockies really had no reason to wait out a better offer probably. Things will likely get pretty busy here soon but my guess is the biggest names get moved within 24-48 hours of the deadline unless teams feel they have their best offer on the table now.

Not sure why/where this narrative came from on the broadcast, but he started last Saturday against the Red Sox and had a full 5 days off in between starts.

I know, but there are ways around that. Or just not starting. Tough with his contract. I saw a tweet that said he wouldn’t start for 90% of teams and while I think that’s a little hyperbole, it’s probably not too far off
I heard it on the broadcast and took their word for it. Looks like it was 5 days rest after all.
