Holmes sure is an interesting player. Last night we went to him and he was basically posting his guy up getting to the hole. Made some awful tough shots. Almost Pratt like. But other times scoring looks to be a struggle. Is it possible that guys that transfer in have never played quite this 'all out' on the defensive end that it takes a little away from their offensive game? Having said that, defense travels. We couldn't have won without it last night. But that 8-9 minute drought....woof!
Holmes has had some nice nights shooting..Last night wasn't his best night, but you're right. His defense is incredible. Gabe wasn't doing much offensively last night either, but his D was a thing of beauty. I seriously stop watching ball movement at times and watch him lock someone down. Defense does travel, and we have a coaching staff that seems to be teaching it pretty well. Win ugly

Shows the "fans" they have. If Des Moines got a pro team, I would only go if given tickets and NEVER on a day where ISU was playing. Now if it was the choice between ISU badminton and pro basketball, that WOULD be a harder decision.

With this attitude, I have been told I'm not a pure sports fan. If it does not relate to ISU, I really don't care. I am probably an anomaly.

AND, I don't buy the "Oklahoma and Okie St. have good fans, but they were torn away by the pros" stuff. They are either good fans or not. In this case, they just don't have good fans.
Both schools had excellent BB attendance before the NBA team was moved into OK. City, what other reason could it be that now both places look like Iowa City for many game nights? The hardcore fans are going to continue to go to the college game, the average fan, when money gets tight, decides, do I go watch the best players in the world once or twice or go to 5 college games. But there are a lot more casual to interested fans, than the hardcore ones.

Put an NBA team in Des Moines, and ISU would be seeing the same effect after a few years.

Maybe, the BAD ISU fans go to the pro games. I would not.

That is what I was saying. I wasn't saying we'd be imune to it.

I would argue OK St had great attendance And atmosphere when they had the smaller venue and before the Thunder. HOWEVER, I remember having a conversation with my bball loving co-worker who was a prof at OK for 5 years in the late 90s that OK fans did not care about bball. I saw good attendane occasionally, but it was never consistently packed like hilton or allen could be.

EDIT: I should have added when ISU was good we had better attendance than when OK was good.

He doesn't like Iowa State, but he is pretty good when he can manage to tone down his bias and do his job.
I guess I don't see the hate. I thought he was fine and he was even calling out the refs when Lipsey got jobbed.
He has been really great at finishing at the rim! Very steady.

The other Cyclone that comes to mind is Naz Long his super senior year. He was so great at finishing at the rim.
God that was a good year for him.
It's probably harder as a player to push down the bias right after your playing days are done. The farther out we get, the less people he's going to have to talk about that he directly faced.
I personally love hearing what other teams think about us, especially our flaws. It gives you good insight on strategy and the general vibe of the league.
