And it sounds like the rest of the panel is picking the Clones!

Part of me doesn't like all these people picking us to win. Hope the team isn't watching.
I put a long post up on another thread. Embrace it! OU, Bama, etc. never say, I wish people thought we suck and go under the radar. IF you win, people going to notice you. Enjoy the fact. The beauty is we have a team and staff that understands how to handle success.

CR Gazette / KCRG-TV pick'em panel in today's paper edition--all six are picking West Virginia.

The Gazette sends entire staff to all reaches of Big 10 country to cover their precious hawkeyes, while hiring some hack intern named Ben Visser to cover ISU, where Ben has picked AGAINST ISU every week of the year sans Akron game. Good gawd

Sounds great, but we're 2-3. We're not OU or Bama right now.

Still not sure how this young team will handle everyone picking them to upset WV tonight. I trust Matt Campbell will not let it affect their preparation today, but these are college kids, so you just never know.

I understand what you're saying though. The goal is to get to the point where you're expected to be picked to win every game, and if you're not, you're ticked off.

I will give Mike Hlas a little credit though. He was on the radio on Monday and was asked which game he was going to cover.... Iowa or ISU?

He said he didn't have a choice, and that the Gazette was sending him on a 7 hour drive to Bloomington. Definitely sounded to me like he would have MUCH rather been going to Ames only 2 hours away and covering a much better matchup too.

Doesn't surprise me at all that they're all picking against ISU though. They're such homers. I understand WV is the favorite, so it's not like they're going out on a limb picking WV, but you'd at least like to see one or two of them have a little bit of pride in the state of Iowa and pick the upset.

I am a pretty pessimistic person regarding many things in life. For some reason, I can't find a way to pessimistic about sports. Maybe it's the escape from all the problems, or maybe, because it is fun and a game, it is easier to not take it so seriously. Don't get me wrong, I get worked up during game time same as the next person, but it just seems to be easier to look at the glass half full, especially when you have a talented team and coaching staff.
Sure, there are some young kids, but plenty of veterans as well. Peavy, PAyne, Harbey, Spears, Eaton, etc. They have maturity on this team.

Friend’s wife bailed on the game because it’s “too cold” so I’m going in her place. Free good seats to a good game. Couldn’t pass it up. See everyone there!
Friend's wife has this all figured out! (And so does the Mountaineer booster on the left!)

Wait, you're going alone with another woman's husband?! Where's Mike Pence? Somebody get him a fainting couch.

I played on a winning team in high school. We got picked to lose to Mason City in the playoffs one year. Beat them 54-0. Was a blood bath. Locker room was silent before we went out there to play. Loved having the high expectations week in and out.

I usually have a pretty good idea what's going to happen but I honestly don't know what to expect for ISU vs West Virginia. Purdy is the real deal but freshman quarterbacks are normally inconsistent.

My guess is Iowa State has a chance if the defense can force a couple turnovers. One thing I'm sure of - I'll be watching.
