Half joking half serious but why don't we hire his dad? Seems to be all the rage these days and looking at his bio on the UNI website, id imagine he has a lot of Wisconsin connections.

Like I said when Cal hired the AAU coach of McNeil. You don't hire a coach for someone outside of the top 25. They did it all wrong. You hire the guy who is going to bring the top kids. Like Missouri did.

I disagree. If we can get an Iowa kid that is talented. Great. If not then we can find other kids outside the state. We are already now committed to spending a lot on out of state recruiting. Look at Iowa. They have got all the good instate recruits the last 30 years and have not had any real sustained program. So If we have every scholarship player and not one of them is from Iowa. No big deal to me.

I generally agree with both of you. Isn't necessary, but being able to get in-state talent just makes life easier because you don't have to look for players in ever nook and cranny.

I agree not to take Iowa kids just because they're from Iowa. Top 100-150 talent.

Starting to get more optimistic that Green isn't set on UNI. At least he appears open to coming to Ames. Still hard to see him spurning his Dad/UNI.

I''m not going to get extremely optimistic yet about this one. A frequent poster on this board already told us blatantly "he is not coming to Iowa State". His words, not mine.

Speaking of coaching hires....didn't we have a position to fill on the staff? I could have missed an announcement or am confused. (The coach that left for a Florida juco recently)

Nate Schmidt. I was wondering same thing, when they were going to announce his replacement

Yeah I remember reading that too, but I'll take AJ's 3rd unofficial visit as more of a indicator than whoever posted that message. You don't unofficially visit a school that many times if you have no intention of going there. Also Prohm probably wouldn't even host him, if he felt his chances were slim.

If that's the case we have to feel good with him coming so many times. I guess he ends up in Ames, no matter where his dad is.
I wouldn't go that far. Just because his dad isn't pushing him doesn't mean he wouldn't love playing for his dad.

Is that actually a coaching position though?

I dont know how much on the court coaching or recruiting is done but it is a paid position. Couldn't find Schmidts salary but Nate Loesner held that position under Hoiberg and he made $65k in 2015.

Honestly with Jackson being a SR this season, Lindell having a chance of maybe being a 2 and done guy, and DM headed to Cal I could see CSP opting to pick up two PG's in the 2018 class.

I definitely hope we get him, but man, that would be a really, really tough decision to make as a kid.

I think it's probably both easier for him and harder for him. It would be hard to turn down playing for family, but his dad is surely an invaluable source of information and advice that other recruits don't have.

Wichita State (and Creighton before them) leaving the MVC has to help our case quite a bit, as the prestige of that conference in nothing like it once was. It used to be a high end mid-major league. Now it's a low end mid-major league at best. It would be hard to blame a kid with that kind of talent for wanting to play in a high major league as an alternative.

Agree. If there was no connection to UNI, he wouldn't even think twice about them.

Something that I've found a least a little strange is that Iowa doesn't even appear to be recruiting him.

From what I have heard, he has no interest in Iowa.

That and the way it sits now, Iowa has no available rides in the 2018 class with Wieskamp already verballed.
