Small ball only works when you have BIG guards who want to be physical and dominate their opponent. Not 1 of this years guards has shown the consistently. THT can easily do that given his measurable's. But he is very immature and has takes the dumbest shots imaginable. Hopefully this off-season someone removes the AAU out of his game

You can take the kid out of the AAU but you can't take the AAU out of the kid.

he is a freshman and a lot of times they have to learn what shots they can and cannot get away with at this level. Not only shots but passes, dribbling etc.

That’s not the only way small ball works and our offense hasn’t been bad.

We’ve been out-smalled on the other end, but perhaps out-everything now. We look like the bigger, slower teams that small ball teams run around, except we’re starting just one post. No lineup works with the current lack of attention to detail and effort

Small ball works when you run and shoot the 3 (see Hoiball). We don't do either particularly well, so I'm not sure why we're so insistent on playing small.

Small ball also works if you have a physical 5 who can hold his own. Think how much better the Monte-Naz-Burton team got when Solomon Young started playing. Young was able to hold his own and grab boards well enough that it worked great. Unfortunately, Young is hurt and I don't think any of other forwards can fill that role. You'd think Lard could but something just isn't clicking there.

Solo is 20+ pounds heavier than Lard.

"Good" Lard is an energy 4. Solomon is the only guy with the bulk to do this on the roster.

I understand that. But I still would think that Lard's energy could compensate for his smaller weight. McKay and him have similar frames and weights and McKay held his own rebounding. But I realize we weren't totally playing 4 guards with Niang out there.

Honestly, to me, fans need to be looking at that 2012 Mizzou team. That team played excellent small ball.

Solomon also had Deonte Burton at the 4.

I know THT and Burton are of a similar size per the height/weight/length factors, but Burton was crafty on the boards and had way more spring in him than does Horton-Tucker.

Lard and Jacobson both have higher rebounding % and significantly better DRating than Young did in 2016-17.

We’ve got bigger problems than not having a “physical 5 who can hold his own and “grab boards”. We’ve got systemic issues, particularly in defense and rebounding, which needless to say will derail a system like small-ball

Nadolny added an Ole Miss offer last night. He's a stud

"Frenchy" is really impressing on the circut and performing at the event this week. I fully expect him to be in Ames for a visit soon.
If he does chose ISU, we will need to work on improving his Nickname though.

@ASlater 6’3” Clarence Nadolny’19 @C_nad11 of @scotland_hoops earned an offer from Ole Miss tonight at @PrepNational #Rebels
HCs for Ole Miss & Boston College were in tonight. West Virginia, N.C. State, Illinois and Iowa State have been actively recruiting him of late. Visits upcoming.

@zsmart3 Nadolny has been the catalyst for Scotland all night. @C_nad11 buries deep 3 as @scotland_hoops seizes 57-46 lead. The kid they call "Frenchy" has that gleam in his ey @Coach_Chaney @sullyb901

@zsmart3 The bigger the stage, the biggest Clarence Nadolny plays @C_nad11 26 vs fork union, w/big 3s and pressure-steering FTs down stretch. Initatiated offense vs MT Zion and hit monumental shots during 88-83 win back during MMA tournament. Was at it again vs NMH.....
@Coach_Chaney

@zsmart3 against a sizzling shooting NMH team which caught fireworks at the opportune time in 2nd half, Nadolny savored the role of fire marshall. Big def stop and scissored his way through defenders for traditional 3-point play. Any pressure and adversity he answers the call. @C_nad11
@zsmart3 Scotland 79, NMH 69. Knights survive and advance in 2019 National Prep Championships.

Clarence Nadolny gave accurate account of his capabilities, finishing with 22 points and producing during pressure hiked sequences. One of the top remaining prospects in the country

@MikeYagmin Young fellas from @NMHbasketball fought like hell to get back into it but Clarence Nadolny (@C_nad11) was too much down the stretch, leading @scotland_hoops to a 79-69 win & the National Prep Championship semifinal. Frenchy finished w/ 21 & some HUGE buckets down the stretch...

Headed to play for Chris Beard at TTU

Don’t think ISU ever seriously recruited but interesting he was able to pull a kid out of Chicago that plays for a shady AAU program

Big dislike on that one.

By my count Tech doesn't have a spot open for him (yet) after receiving Terrence Shannon's commitment this afternoon. And that includes me counting Culver as gone.

Currently 5 incoming commits (Not counting 1 who enrolled at semester):
-4 high school
-1 JuCo

Losing 4 seniors + Culver

If they further pursue Nadolny instead of a grad transfer guard they are SUPER high on him.

Does this help with Nadolny?
