Was somebody else calling plays in the last half of fourth quarter? I loved that team!

61 yards and 4 first downs in the first half after a bye week. Completely unacceptable by any standard, at any program.

I believe it was right around the 5 minute mark of the 4th quarter that we picked up our 8th first down of the game (according to Yahoo stats). So 7 points and 8 first downs in 55 minutes of play. After 2 weeks to prepare for a team with a very average defense.

As someone else mentioned above, I'm sure the 2 garbage time TDs will save Mess's job though.

Hated this hire from day 1. 15 games in and I still have no reason to change my mind.

I won't say that I hated the hire from day 1, but I was HIGHLY skeptical. I was willing to wait and see how it would play out since Rhoads was making the call, and I'm nothing more than a fan in the stands.

That said, I have yet to see one shred of evidence that he has benefited this team in any way whatsoever. What QB under his tutelage has improved over his career? What offense under his tutelage has improved over the course of a season? Here we are, with what most would argue is the best collection of offensive talent under Rhoads, and we're totally constipated when it comes to on-field production. I'm mad at myself for believing we could see something else without first waiting to witness some tangible evidence.

worst thing that could have happened is the comeback. Now CPR will spin it saying the offense showed resilience and looked much improved from the first half and will say it's something we can build on. If ISU only scores 7 points then there's no way CPR can spin it. Sucks a lot.

Yeah lets just let Iowa roll us over in a 20+ point win. Because that's just what we need right now. SMH

How many screen passes did ISU run tonight? What were the results? I would guess 20 screen passes minimum for a net of around 10 yards and that may be generous. ISU had on average 3rd and 8 on each 3rd down play. So for nearly 3 quarters they were averaging 2 yards combined on 1st and 2nd down. Offensive genius at work... Time to sit back and enjoy.

There was an IMMEDIATE drop-off in effective play-calling after our LAST Offensive Coodinator got hired away from us by the )(*&^% Buckeyes! Is there some sort of excuse for the unbelievably unimaginative offensive play-calling for the first 90% of this game? I understand what happened at the Center position, but the O-Line seems PATHETIC! CPR - you GOTTA take charge and turn this thing around before people start climbing on you...and then let all; of the hard work and building fritter away (again)!

As painful as it was to watch on TV, I could see that same pain on CPR's face during the majority of the game! Rhoads is TOO PERFECT of a fit to let the football program get back out of control! Moreover. many posters on this site do NOT have sufficient appreciation for the progress Already made in recruiting...we ARE rebuilding, after all!

I would be seriously considering having Sturdy call the plays for Tulsa. It really can't get any worse than that. That was 55 minutes of utter futility followed by Iowa giving us everything underneath and trying to run the clock out. That is a horrible Iowa team, and they manhandled us. Our execution is horrendous and the play-calling remains uninspired. Sam was missing open guys and the OL was terrible. It's just painful to watch.

I opened this thread without noticing the date that it was started. Sad thing is, I didn't notice it until I had read through a couple of pages. Hmmm, coincidence? I think not - seems to be a disturbing pattern with our offense.

I had faith in Mess last season and still thought he had a chance to be a good OC heading into this season. UNI made me doubt that, tonight made me convinced that he should not be calling plays. I would be all for Sturdy calling plays the rest of the season.
