Here nor there
First meeting back in Ames should be a week-long look at the offense. Call in some consultants, sacrifice a goat, pull on some magic undies. Whatever it takes.
That was a rough game, but not abnormal. Mess was hired for continuity, and I'd say we were as bad on offense as ever. This offense has been fundamentally flawed for four years- horizontal would be an improvement for this scheme.

have a feeling Mess will stay, similar to Iowa's situation. Even though it's a 99.99% chance Mess won't improve the offense before he does go.

I have a feeling you are correct. I don't think Rhoads gets rid of anyone. He's too much of a nice guy and is too close of friends with these guys. I will be surprised if Mess goes. VERY surprised.

Although, I've never seen Rhoads so disgusted with the offense as he was tonight on the sidelines in the 4th quarter. He gave up. Completely gave up on them. And I don't blame him. With 10 minutes left in the game, Rhoads wanted to wave the white flag and just hide under a rock.

If he remembers how ticked he was at the end of this game, he might get rid of Mess.

Wow I wonder why they play terribly? Maybe it's because they have no time to throw... Are rushed out of the pocket, and have to try to play from behind and make bad decisions?

Derp

Even when they have time to make the throws, they seldom do. The whole offense is **** and needs a complete overhaul.

They talk about how impressed they were with Nealy throughout the bowl practices and he gets how many touches? 1..that's right 1 touch. There is no design to this offense...there is no game plan. He is just in way over his head being an OC in the Big 12.

1. We need to dump our scheme on offense. Implement something that actually works to the advantages to the type of athletes we can get at Iowa State.

2. We need to recruit better football players.

3. We need players that don't trash talk every ten seconds after giving up a twenty yard gain. This is probably why officials hate our team.

Agree with points one and three. We have talented enough players to win games like today. We lost because we were out coached, out played, and out hustled. We were no threat on offense (except one nice TD pass) which has to change. I don't like the 'fire the coach' threads, but our program might be too big for Mess.

Mess is a mess, but the OL was as much to blame as anything. Also, the receivers did not play well at all, dropping several passes. It was just one of those game too. Tulsa fumbled 5 times and somehow managed to get everyone back.

Just a complete fail by the coaching staff in this game. For the life of me I do not understand why we didn't go after a punt until the game was completely out of reach. There was no returns all day and their punter took forever to get a kick off.

I think we need to demote him, not dump him. If I recall, and many people here will know better, Mess is a big recruiter for us and gets a bunch of guys out of Florida. Which might explain why Rhoads felt compelled to promote from within and give Mess a shot. I'm speculating, but I think Rhoads didn't want to lose the guy.

But if he won't accept the demotion, fire him. Recruits don't matter if they have no offense to play in.

This is a good point, where the hell is this guy? All I hear about is how great he looks and how great our RB's are and all we do is abandon the run and not give them the ball.

Why do all 3 QB's, who all have shown to have ability and flashes of brillance, continually slide backward and don't develope at all? Why?

It is very clear there needs to be full time QB coach on this staff. I do not understand why you need a TE only coach, yet not have a QB only coach.

Yep, we only had one tight end who could catch a ball. Maybe we needed three qb coaches as we had three qbs.
