I had a roommate from Chicago who went crazy with kites. He would use the kite to fish. He got the kite to about 100 or 200 feet in the air and then rigged it to drop a line with bait in a lake. When the fish bit the kite would immediately pull it up 100 feet up in the air. Probably illegal.

We would go out and fly kites with others at maple willow larch. While others were flying it 100 feet up, he had an elaborate setup where we went 2500 feet out. We We’re close to flying it over the power plant north of MWL. We couldn’t see it. The other kids would stop flying their cheap $10 kites and stand around and watch us. One of the funnest things I ever did.
