Rofl. Didn't that last UI three-pointer beat the spread for the Illini? Going to be some bettors very angry at Prohm if so.

I think that last three nailed Kenpom's score prediction. I think the line was always ISU by 10 or less.

"Iowa State only shoots three/doesn't play defense or rebound."

Looking at that box score, we...

-sucked from 3 tonight
-out-rebounded them significantly (without McKay much of the game, either for injury or match-up reasons)
-didn't turn the ball over (marry me, Monte Morris)
-forced a pile of turnovers

That looks like a team winning with the "ground game" of not turning the ball over and creating takeaways, no? Basically how a defensive team grinds it out?

Love you Hoiball, but seeing a team that can win a game multiple ways when those 3's aren't falling is quite refreshing and good portents for the future regarding...

-defensive ability
-mental toughness to overcome bad shoot
-Prohm and TJ's coaching to find ways around that and keep them in games
(this year and going forward)

I really enjoyed that game. I like having to sweat for a while. Matt is prone to some silly turnovers but he has really stepped up. I do believe however that McKay travels every time he makes a post move. It will get interesting against larger teams like a portion of today's game was

Matt Thomas continues to impress - loved his 'D' and steal with about 4.5 minutes left, and then his drive to the hoop for 2. He is becoming a more complete basketball player & I love it!! I'm not so sure we win this game as comfortably as we did down the stretch with Hoiberg. Our "D" is definitely more improved (just gotta work on not giving up as many offensive rebounds).
