KSU only made 3 more FTs than us. Their shooting wasn't THAT ridiculous (23-29) compared to ours (20-30).

They missed 3 free throws the last 30 seconds when the game was already in hand. They shot out of their ***** for a team that came in 65% for the season.

Don't give me that ****.

I don't know what Fred is seeing or everybody else.....but out of the 277 NCAA teams out there, most of them use more than three players for the front court positions. I think most teams have extra players they use.....maybe they aren't the best, but the can give fouls, they can give the first squad a rest, they can boost the overall morale of the team with opportunities to even play, they can give some contemplation time for the starters when they routinely play like they are entitled and get into double digit deficits at the beginnings of halfs. Whatever.
I loved Johnnoy Orr and winning at home. That is cool...we still do that. No national championship this year, but I bet most teams don't win a national champoinship either.
Just stop posting.

Positives would be that Melvin and Deandre have pretty much 100% clinched first team Big 12 and are probably 1 and 2 right now for POY.

This team absolutely cannot survive all three of hogue, naz and Thomas not showing up. You can't depend on the big three to all have good games every night. They need some help and having three empty uniforms out there clanging shots won't cut it.
You can add Niang to that. Ejim and Kane were very good overall....no one else offered anything.

Was ejim getting so many technicals in previous years....somehow I always had the impression that he was this calm, mature dude

I'm frustrated we're the last place team in 3pt %. This is the biggest weakness on the team this season

Our designated snipers go 0-9 tonight.

This team is shooter away. Disappointed Thomas can't figure it out yet. Need him to click to get us over the hump. We need 3-5 threes out of our bench guards, and we would be a top 5 team.

He's good for a couple technicals every year.

I think it needs to be said that Ejim needs to keep his poise as a senior leader on this team. He has hurt us the last two games with technicals and he failed to keep his cool on multiple occasions tonight beyond the technical. Fred has the calm mentality that wins on the road and in tough neutral environments. The players need to understand that and play like their coach.

We miss 5 FT's in a row when we were up 1 with 2 minutes left. Had we made them, as we should have, KSU is playing a totally different strategy as are we. We miss all 5 and next thing you know their up 5. Ejim had a good game scoring and rebounding but needs to learn to STFU and play ball and be the leader. Not sure if all the hype this year is going to some of their heads or what, but I am not sure how good I feel about our big12 tourney chances and the big dance.

The loss:

1) Didn't cover Southwell from 3 point line early
2) For Melvin to get a tech 2nd game in a row was stupid and poor leadership, which is unusual for him
3) Thomas and Long have got to get it together from outside. There is no consistency there at all.
4) Niang could not hit the broad side of a barn tonight.

This team just does not play well consistently away from Hilton, and that is a concern going into the NCAA.

I hope they can do better at Baylor, but it will not be easy. Especially with a short turnaround and bad weather. Might be smarter just to head south to Dallas/Waco now instead of coming back to Iowa.

But KSU ended up hitting only one more three than ISU, right? Spradling's crap shot?
The issue is having to take 6 or 7 more shots just to get there, almost all Long and Thomas misses.

Niang had a bad night, but that's going to happen. He's a matchup player -- if you have a favorable matchup, he will often score a lot of points. But there's potential there to just shut him down with some athleticism.

And, of course, free throws. Free throws, free throws, free throws, free throws. Just awful. But that isn't going to change, Naz being incredibly streaky isn't going to change, and chances are Thomas isn't going to start hitting 3-4 threes per game. So, just gotta hope on a given night you get lucky with free throws and Naz or Thomas can hit a couple without shooting 9, and Niang doesn't turn in handfuls of empty possessions. As evidenced by their record, these things all happen at once less often than not, but they aren't an anomaly anymore.

It seems like refs ice our free throw shooters. There was the review, Kansas state thinking someone fouled out when they did not, and a late substitution.

5) ISU had 12 assists on 23 baskets, not close to their normal. That is not ISU MBB.

You have to pick your poison on calculated risks. ISu played well today with a lot of intensity, shots just were not falling. It happens

agree with everything except for the part about ejim. He is a technical foul machine. No surprise there. Great player...can't control himself sometimes. Would probably give me the double birds for saying that

Problem is it is a weak technical. If you are going to call trash talk there should be a tech on every trip up and down the court.
