Ok, I agree we aren't the worst program.

Agree, but I am still amazed of how fast things have bottomed out. Last year, we had the best guard in America, IMO, landed a top 30 recruiting class, got Foster over Iowa, just beat a ranked Seton Hall at home...I thought it was trending upwards, then FAMU, blowouts at home, 2019 recruiting class was a bust, transfers and now this year and here we are.

I think Prohm's job rests upon the fact that no part of the program has shown improvement. Obviously not the record, but how about basic fundamentals? Every coach has had set backs. Think of poor Boyton at OK State, he has had nothing BUT setbacks, and his program has steadily shown improvements. Huggie's had a couple tough rebuild years, but there they are winning games, even without his beloved press. Shaka faced injuries, illness, one and dones, but Texas has stuck with him because he put his stamp on the program, his players adore him.
I think Prohms a nice guy, but I am struggling to come up with one positive that will save his job.
He'll never leave us is the one positive :jimlad:

Well Foster hasn't played and neither has Hinson. I think with some of those closer games there was a win or two to be had with more inside presence. And who knows what effect that may have had on the guys walking off with a win.

For the love of God can we stop bringing up Fred Hoiberg in this thread as a potential replacement. We should not want it either.

Someone on this site (please @ yourself if you see this) called Hoiberg the Chip Kelly of basketball and it’s a perfect comparison.

Game changing concepts in college brought his hype to insane levels, went to the pros and failed, came back to college at a worse job than the he left and isn’t successful like he was before because everyone else now does what he used to do so well.

If Matt Campbell left, would we hire Chip Kelly? No.

agreed! Furthermore why would you want to come back if you’re Fred? Everyone would expect the same results as last time and imagine the disappointment if that didn’t happen! The Hoiberg ship has sailed.

I think no true point guard was a killer. Jackson was a miss. The fact Harris played 20 plus minutes a game at Memphis year prior coming to ISU and averaged less than an assist per game told us he was not a point guard.

Even with 4 guards on the court, 1 of them needs to break down the D to allow for more open looks and get the defense moving.

4 guards on the court shouldn’t have 22 turnovers!

ESPN has the Thursday night game with Texas listed as postponed. Is this covid or snow related?

They posted a story about it here on CF but I don't think they at the time had said why.

Might be weather--UT moved tomorrow's game to Wednesday so maybe just avoiding back to back games.

100% agree.. . That fizer team should have won the national title. The team had it all - the stars, role players, and bench players.
I still have ptsd 20 years later from the blarge call, then Eustacy having a nuclear meltdown that the refs just weren't about to let us beat Michigan St in their home state.

To this day I hate Michigan St and always will.

No doubt that season was an emotional roller coaster! I just don't see the need to try to trash that season as some disappointing mess because a 17 year old Freshman was wildly inconsistent, a 200+ ranked true freshman role player that turned out to be a lottery pick was... a freshman role player, and we had an NBA cup of coffee and a G league guy.

But there was lots of entertainment value, and the good outweighed the bad for sure. Otherwise that wouldn't have been a 6 seed.

It's clear Prohm is not getting it done at ISU, and I don't see anyone saying otherwise. But if people didn't get more enjoyment than frustration out of the three tournament seasons while Prohm was coach, you are probably destined to be disappointed as an ISU fan. The run under Hoiberg was incredible, but is also unprecedented in terms of consistent performance, and is going to be tough to replicate. That run also had the ups and downs you expect from college basketball, but because we were coming out of the dark ages, and the overall trajectory looked so good, it was easy to brush off the down times. Hell, the 2011-12 season was full of disasters and inconsistency, but just getting into the tournament was so awesome after missing for so many years, that is still one of the most fun seasons as a fan I can remember.

You’re absolutely right it was a very entertaining, albeit frustrating season. I watched every game that season and I certainly can’t say that for the last 2. I wasn’t trashing the season, just saying it wasn’t worth an extension.

Fuzzy attempts at football analogies aside - I’d take him back in a second right now over Prohm, and so would every ISU fan I know. He’s much more of a sure thing then a mid major coach.

And quite frankly, he was set up to fail in Chicago... and your logic is flawed in your argument that his lack of success with the Bulls somehow makes him less likely to be successful at ISU.

I think considering Fred should be based on his 5 year plan more than his success (or lack thereof) in the NBA. Where does Fred want to be in 5 years? Still coaching CBB or does he see himself in an NBA front office somewhere?

Fred had a .42 win percentage for the Bulls.. I know I know not good right? Well, a name that's been thrown around here a lot as of late is John Beilein and I guess people have forgotten his short stint in the NBA with the Cavs? Beilein had a .39 win percentage and cited the amount of losses piling up as one of the main reasons he's stepping down. He said it was affecting his mental health.

Do people think that it's just a coincidence Tim Miles was fired on the same day Steve signed an extension? March 26, 2019, which happened to be only a few days after Steve turned down Alabama... Fred didn't want to be at Nebraska lol. He was waiting to see whether Prohm was going to go back to his alma mater. Fred would come back here in a heartbeat if given the opportunity.

It wasn’t the win/loss record that did him in in Chicago.
