Very valid points above -I especially don't understand why he doesn't value rebounding and getting to the line for free throws. Those are staples of any good team and very simple to teach/coach. We show extremely little interest in doing either, and that's why I think we need a leader (head coach) that emphasizes SOMEthing -best to start there if you don't have any shooters or distributors.

Instead we lacked any sort of team basketball skill. We've all seen better action/sets at our local AAU or high schools. It's mind boggling. The only thing he taught at his father-son camp a few years ago was close-outs on shooters, for several hours. And none of the ISU guys can even do that properly. And he NEVER corrects anyone, or corrects a referee. I struggle to understand anymore just exactly what he does, but recruit fairly decently.

Yeah his player development is putrid which is why you can’t tell if some of his recruits were busts or not. But yeah I’d presume most of the reason why we suck at rebounding and getting to the line is Prohm’s lack of accountability as well as roster construction.

Prohm doesn’t bench you and rarely gets on your case for screwing up. It’s mind boggling how many times I’ve watched guys show absolutely zero effort trying to box out or going after a long rebound. Part of that is also roster construction because the last two years we’ve been nothing but undersized guards. Hard to box out Big 12 teams with your 1, 2, and 3 being under 6’4”. That also plays a hand in getting to the line. When you’re that short you don’t exactly love getting your shot sent into the 3rd row three times a game.

This is also where accountability comes in because when there is a wide open straight line drive 6’7” Johnson or a 6’4” JCL will pull up for a contested jumper instead of taking it all the way to the rim.. And the coaching staff is fine with it. I’ve watched that scenario play of countless times this year and Prohm claps his hands like it was a good shot. It’s pathetic.

My Grandson has a genetic disorder and will be blind before 20 years old...

....that's f*cking sad.
I am very sorry about your grandson. In no way would this ever compare to a tragic situation for a family member, much less a child. I'm sorry I was so over the top about my comment - it was simply in the vein of venting about a coach that was never a good fit/hire and unfortunately helped destroy a basketball program that was finally making headway. Again, my apologies and I sincerely hope they find a cure to help him.

It's all good. I appreciate the response. You were fine actually the way you initially responded. It's a message board. We're fanatics. This is how we are. It can be quite entertaining...and exasperating at the same time.
Right now my grandson looks and acts like any other 3 year old. You'd never really know anything is wrong. We've been lucky so far that he's developed pretty normally in the whole scheme of things. But knowing what awaits him makes my heart sad. But our family will all be there for him. He's a pretty great kid. :)

I do agree that Prohm has no clue what to do without a real good true PG and that in itself is bad. He needs a guy that can create for everyone because he has no idea what he wants to do offensively. There’s zero identity. There was more structure on my AAU team than what he has going on.

If you look at some teams in the Big 12 and elsewhere around the country, there are teams that don’t have true PGs and yet are having successful years and that’s because they have coaches that can adjust to their roster. Last year we were horrific at shooting 3’s, yet we shot the most threes in the conference. This year we have no ball handlers and have some of the worst decision makers in the nation, yet all we do is run ball screens for everyone and we shoot tons of 15 foot jump shots (the worst shot in basketball)

To top it all off, Prohm doesn’t give a crap about defense or rebounding, so we dont create any easy points via fast breaks or 2nd chance points.

This. He doesn’t coach to his players’ strengths, he coaches his way and tries to fit the players into that system. Recipe for disaster as we’ve seen this year.

In fact, it almost seems like he plays to the players’ weaknesses (I know he doesn’t on purpose) but team is terrible at TOs...so we put them in situations to have more of them instead of simplify the offense. We are a terrible shooting team...so we dribble around and launch 3s or long contested 2s. We are bad defensively...so we pretend we aren’t and continue to play man and the same system.

In fact, we don’t do anything well except shoot free throws. And do we attack the basketball more so we can shoot more FT? Nope...

Completely agree with all of this. On a good note: it’s his last game we have to watch him coach Iowa state tonight.

Hines had a story in this morning's Rag about how the men's BB problems stem from what happened in 2018-19. He makes a lot of good points.

Brought back some painful reminders about when the team splintered, locker room arguments, Jacobson shoving THT on the court, etc. Fran F. made the point that some of the players (Wigg and THT) were already halfway out of town.

Lot's of talk about bad "chemistry", but that didn't seem only about the '18-'19 team; seem to have been an issue before and after.

Isn't it true that we lead the league in FT%, and also in the fewest FTs shot in the league. That's the way to play to your strengths.
There are 347 teams that at least started their season this year (a few teams dropped out and this negates the Ivy League). Iowa State ranks 346th in FTA as well as 305th in our opponent’s FTA.

We lose JCL and Solo and add Hinson. So right now for next season it's Bolton, Hinson, maybe Foster, maybe Hunter, and huge maybe Walker. That's simply not enough, not even close.
I think it is still a maybe on HInson.
