I saw my first ISU basketball game in 1959. This year's team is the most devoid of basketball talent since Glen Anderson's last team in 1970-71. Maury John arrived the following year.
I was actually pretty thrilled to only have to buy 3 games to keep my season tickets this year. Why drive 200 miles and waste 6 hours - 18 effing times - thru the winter weather, just to watch this crime against basketball?

I'm afraid Steve may have broke him.
They tried to bulk him up and make him a traditional big. In doing so the lost sight of what he was good at, which was stretching the floor and pick and roll/pop.
I don't usually rag on our players either, but he is the closest thing to Jordan Railey I've seen since... Jordan Railey
I think he looks good with the weight. But he has no feel for the back to the basket game. He would be great as a pick n pop guy, that is if he can shoot worth a lick. Doesn't seem like he's got a huge knack for that either
That was the game last night. If they get out rebounded by only 15 its a much closer game, possibly even swings back our way with all of okies turnovers. There were multiple long stretches of us getting zero rebounds and their guys just stood near their own rim and got cheap put backs. Shorthanded or not, you should never give up that many boards to a team that isn't much bigger than you. Conditt was by far the biggest player for either team size wise, but couldn't stay on the floor.
Conditt is a square peg that Prohm has been trying to jam into a round hole for 3 years. Conditt is your classic rim runner, a big who loves to run and play in space. He should be playing for an uptempo team somewhere, or only be used when we go uptempo (which we don't, of course).
Rather than try to coach him on skills to make him more effective in this role, and then use him in that role... Prohm has been trying to turn him into a Jared Homan type space heater.
That's why you see him "regressing". He is being coached/developed in the OPPOSITE way of what he should be. I would say Prohm has ruined any chance for GC4 to play professionally anywhere. He wasn't going NBA, but he could have had a nice run in Europe. CPS just killed his development and any professional career potential. Absolute malpractice.

The over/under on wins the rest of the season is probably 0.5, right? Good lord.
Kind of a microcosm of what has seemed like an issue under CSP...figuring out the strengths and going with it.
Not that it would have mattered as it was a 'gap year' (or so we thought) but as a prime example, I remember it took a few games before NWB took over at point guard in 17-18.
What was happening at practice that didn't make it obvious that he fit that role better than DJ, and DJ fit better as a scrambling spot/off screen shooter?
Team can't play defense very well? Ok, keep it serviceable, focus on offense and see if it gets better as the team gels.
Maybe my old brain isn't functioning properly but I thought he was always in the project/developmental category.
A guy you take when you have a legit roster that can give him time.
We have pretty much roster collapse so we're looking at the not pretty result.
When Cyclones were bragging up Prohms recruiting class they were failing to realize that about 6 other Big 12 teams had better classes. One was OkSt, and you saw it last night, even without the headliner.
I will say I have been, and continue to be, very much in favor of playing these games. But there was a point last night when Prohm was in the huddle, with everyone wearing a mask, in an empty gym talking to a group of 8 players and I thought "what are we doing here."

I agree. I'm not sure where it's coming from that Conditt was going to be the next coming of Craig Brackins or Marcus Fizer. All this talk of him regressing, but regression from what exactly? He came in as the lowest rated recruit in his class. People were excited because he was 6'10", a legacy, and came in and had a few surprising moments as a FR. Bottom line though is he might just be what he is. A fringe P6 talent backup 5. He doesn't have a 3 point shot. I think his ceiling was Jameel McKay. Floor is Simeon Carter. He is somewhere in the middle right now, and not sure if we see him get to his peak here.
Game ball to Nate Jenkins. There are some physical limitations there, but he plays smart and hard. Seems fundamentally sound. More than I can say for a lot of our scholarship guys.
I'm not sure that's fair. Jenkins played fine, but he knew his role. His job was to play defense and keep the ball moving. It's easy to be "fundamentally sound" when you aren't really looking to score.
Unfortunately guys like Harris and Bolton don't have that option as we look to them to create offense, which can lead to "not being fundamentally sound" when you are trying to create offense on a bad offensive team.
I like seeing kids like Jenkins get a shot. But yes, unfair to Bolton and to a lesser extent Harris. Mostly referring to the freshmen and GC though.
I'd say my logic extends to GC and the freshmen too, at least for this past game. Those guys, as at least rotation players, know with 8 guys they can't afford to just be a placeholder. So they maybe pushed in ways they wouldn't ordinarily push.
