Honestly they probably should have kept Newell at C and left JGJ at LT. Hate to rag on a kid, but Foster is a liability. All things considered we needed the first game. Offense went stagnant as soon as we got on the board.

Agree. Foster has no business playing LT. We also have to give Iowa credit, their group of D-ends are all big, strong, and athletic enough to be problems in the run and pass game.

With that said, it doesn't look like our OL is going to be the level we need this year. If we have any hope of throwing vertical and loosening up defenses, gonna need to keep an extra blocker or two in there to give adequate protection.

If the offense is crap, running the same few plays over and over again probably won’t put you in a position to even try to win the ballgame.

I’m not that upset about the loss but you bring up a good point about play calling. There were times last 2 years when the play calling was garbage. I had hoped that was manning. Maybe it was cdmpbell

I suggest everyone quit ******** and over reacting, first game of the year is for working things out, unfortunately ours never happened until today. Our defense was fantastic and Iowa’s defense was very good as well. It is what it is, we will face much better offenses but probably not much better defense. Give Iowa credit and move on..... quickly.

This looked like a Paul Rhoads team: great defense gives a valiant effort but runs out of gas when offense doesn’t do jack squat.

I want to better understand why we largely abandoned the “dink and dunk” game that worked well on the first drive. And all those hand offs up the middle into the teeth of the DL. I know we need to get DM the ball, it can we do it with some swing passes?

I’d say maybe C Newell should have started at Center & JGJ should @ LT, but that may not have been an improvement today.

Credit to both teams. I'm really trying to decifer it all, but it seemed like the botched punts took any kind of momentum out of our sails. Everything after that just snowballed. The D played their guts out and any question marks surrounding Mike Rose getting the start should be silenced. He was playing HS ball last year and he was all over the damn place today.

Probably not running the ball up the middle constantly when you are getting less than a yard per carry.

Or throwing to the open area of the defense when you have two WR over 6'3, Jones, and an athlete like Allen along with two RBs that can catch and run.

Love CMC but he needs to publicly acknowledge how he didn't utilize ISU's playmakers.
