I wasa CMC defender before today.
Every successive offensive play today lost me more and more.
Not going to defend him anymore. Over it.
My first "WTF" moment was the 4th quarter of the Big 12 Championship game where Purdy threw to a double-covered Kolar instead of running with 25+ yards of open field in front of him, which would have extended the drive with plenty on the clock. Keep in mind that the fear to tuck the ball and run was instilled into him by the coaching staff because he did that with great success his freshman year and did less and less of it as he played at ISU. I didn't think much of it at the time because it was the Big 12 Championship game and we went on to win the Fiesta Bowl, but I keep coming back to this moment as the proof that there has always been something dysfunctional about this offense, even when it was the best offense in the Big 12.
The next two years the offense saw regression as talent graduated/left for the NFL/for other places, and the dysfunctions in the offense really began showing themselves. I blamed this on Manning because as bad as the offense was, the defense continued to be among the best in the nation.
So Manning finally gets fired in the offseason, only for Campbell to hire his underling, and the offense is even worse now.
At this point, it's clear Campbell is only interested in proving that his way is right and he doesn't need to change. If he was actually interested in improving this program he would have used firing Manning as the opportunity to finally do something different with this offense.
