And....OU is pretty darn good. I wish I had one of their bigs. We do have Edozie and he should have been used for effect tonight. OrrBall though.

They will bet beat in the first round. Like last year. Same with Okie St, and probably Texas. We'll handle them in Ames. We just suck on the road.

Did everyone really expect a win tonight? OU is prob the second hardest place to play (since we can't play ourselves) and has a darn good team. Their guards are big, quick, and shoot lights out. As Chris said when they added Thomas it made them really dangerous. You can't go in at half after shooting lights out and scoring 46 pts and be tied. Not going to win that way.

Floyd picked guys that were tough and defended but he also would change defenses to break other teams rythum.

If Tim Floyd ever played anything other than straight up half court man defense for more than 5 minutes in a game then I don't remember it and I had season tickets through the entire Floyd era.

Like a bunch of hyenas, jumping on the team when they are down. Of course they didn't play great tonight, but most of these posts are ridiculous. Anyone who expected us - or anyone else - to cruise through the Big 12 this year, home AND away, was smoking something funny. The comments about Fred are particularly galling; not one person posting here has half a clue about the game compared to Fred. And since you have no idea what Fred was instructing his players to do, you have even less basis for the stupid comments.

We have a very good team and a great coach. And we lost. Get over it.

"Very good" teams play defense and rebound. Iowa State doesn't. Iowa State is a good team, that can get hot and beat anybody, but also lose to anybody. Just reality this year.

I love Fred, but he isn't a good defensive coach. Otherwise Iowa State's defense wouldn't suck every year.

It was from watching Tim's box and one and triangle and two that I had even ever heard of those defenses - maybe he didn't run them much and they just stuck with me.

Cam Clark was ok, but Thomas has really made them better, and Hield has turned into a star and a legit NBA talent. I think they're a lot better than last year (when they also beat ISU in Norman).

Yea, I don't even understand why not at least try a zone with McKay in the middle. How much worse could it be?

Which team had the personnel to be good defensively? Tough to be good on defense when you consistently are the smaller and less athletic team.

Fred has done an amazing job to win this much this soon. We still have to accept trade-offs in recruiting. Given we are looking at 4-straight tournaments, and a FF run derailed by injury, I'd say he is choosing very well.

Well this is going to get very interesting now. KU fans will certainly be cheering for ISU when they get Oklahoma back in Hilton. OU has a pretty cushy schedule from here on out and will likely win their next four games (@KSU, vs. Texas, @TT, vs. TCU). If they beat ISU in the rematch then that means that the last game of the year Kansas @Oklahoma might be to decide the Big 12 title. Yikes. Go Cyclones!

You don't need to do that. Since we don't play NDSU for LakesBison's sake, you were already a lock for troll of the year.

I was hoping for a win, but at least expected a competitive game. Neither happened. OU had a 17 point lead at the 7 minute mark, and maintained it until ISU hit a couple of late 3pt shots.

My bad, didn't mean to blow up on you personally, just really ******. Yeah we're not tough, but I also remember that the team last year wasn't really tough in conference play until the end of the year. Hopefully somehow this team can figure it out by then.

It's all good...my point, which I should have state more clearly, is that EVERY great team has one guy they can count on...that has the moxie and resolve to own the moment, challenge his teammates and be the go-to when it gets tough. Kane and Ejim split that role, with Kane being more of it. We DO NOT have it this year. We fold when it gets tough.

Our body language in the second half was atrocious. Hanging our heads, staring down the refs on calls...this team is not mature right now and it's showing...which surprises me a lot considering the things we did. We have the talent and ability, just need to grow it up a bit. Just my opinion.

Everyone always remembers only the good stuff about former players. There were games where people screamed about Kane's heroball mentality when his heroics didn't work out. You cannot praise Hoiball for what it is (having five guys on the floor spread out, all of them being a threat to score) and then be mad when you don't have one guy that can take over. Even if they wanted to, the offensive system does not allow for that to happen. Breakdowns happen when people leave the plan and start freestyling out there. The defensive problems are costing ISU games and will need to be fixed to make a tourney run, barring any favorable breaks in the bracket.

Lol only Iowa St on the road could shoot 55% from the field and lights out from 3 and be tied at half. This team is no different from the Stinson/Blakock teams that didn't do **** on the road.

Here's an idea for practice tomorrow. Learn how to shoot free throws and let Monte do lay ups under the hoop for 2 hours so he can figure out how NOT to brick them 90% of the time

Who is Blakock? How fast they forget.

A bit confused by all the comments saying ISU doesn't have the physical personnel to play good defense. Of the top 7 guys, only Niang (moderate athleticism for his size) could be said to be physically limited. Sure we'll struggle with 7 footers and guys like Rico Gathers, but there's very few individual players in the conference like that.

Also, I didn't notice it in the game, but I thought this quote was interesting. Could explain Morris struggling a bit more than usual.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Cousins, on the officials letting the guards play physical ball without calling many fouls: "It was pretty fun. It was like I was back in New York City."

That darn ref John Higgins showboating for a national audience. Letting OU get away with murder.
