Honest question. Do we think that TJ is NOT looking for people who can shoot? Is it possible that those people are getting better offers and just not coming to play for ISU and he puts together the best game plan he can based on what he CAN get here?

Maybe he is saying, "nah, get lost", to a bunch of guys that can hit 35%+ from 3, if that is the case, I would question his strategy a little. But, I'm not sure that is the case.

I think the Milan Momsilovic recruitment should answer that question.

We should have won this game. Played very well defensively. Complete catastrophic meltdown on offense and it isn’t the first time this has happened under Otz. Probably like 4th or 5th time that comes to mind.

That being said this team should never have made the tournament. Definitely less talented than last years team and the Big 12 was better than it’s ever been.

Overall I think this season was a success and we made it through the Otz rebuild hanging two NCAA banners. Program is receiving a much needed influx of talent. I’m hopeful that this spring we are able to secure more P6 transfers as they seem to be more reliable. Team desperately needs to add some proven shot makers.

I wasn't sure if this team could make the NIT before the season because I wasn't sure who could score. I'm happy they made the tournament but yikes, offense was really bad. Pittsburgh isn't a good team but we were atrocious. No one could make a shot. Loss was less painful than others since it was over with so much time left.

Honest answer. You're ******* dumb if you think this. He was a phone call away from getting AJ
Green.

I looked at the box score. Objectively - the best offensive game was Hassan Ward. He took zero shots in 13 minutes and only had one turnover

It’s a shame we couldn’t anticipate teams face guarding Gabe, collapsing off of Lipsey, swatting and swiping at our bigs, and literally every other thing that teams have beat us doing this season. ******* failure of coaching to adjust to the blueprint on defending ISU.

Looking at the big picture & player contribution -- Gabe didn't have it today (almost nobody did, at least not for long enough stretches), but I won't take him for granted during the program transition. Wish he could have gone out on a higher note. Easily this season's team MVP. Yes, he can be feast/famine, but he was a lot more consistent this season compared to last. Fierce defensive competitor, not afraid to take shots.

How many mid majors and double digit seeds are dropping threes left and right. I don’t think there is a shortage of shooters due to NIL. Maybe ones that can defend.

I get that might not fit into your defensive strategy but at some point you got to have some offense to go with it.
I think that's a fair criticism, and the "our PG got hurt" isn't a good counter. Williams was a bad shooter as well, so this team was going to struggle offensively either way.

We didn't need another lockdown defender. A mediocre defensive player that could shoot 37-38% from three would've made this team leaps and bounds better.

That's not whats going on. Just watch other games, there's shooters all over this tourney that could play here.

The problem is his scheme and culture so far is built around tough defense and if you aren't good at defense you won't play.

The real problem is he wants what he can't have, guys that play elite defense and are good shooters also. Every team wants those(except Fran at Iowa) and those guys will demand top NIL money.

Guys like Grill and Gabe are getting close to that kind of player, but they just aren't consistent enough to be able to carry a team.

TJ burned a lot of good will equity he had acquired this February and March.
im not saying he burned all of this good will, but he definitely had more of it at the end of January, and you could describe the difference between then and now as a lot.

That tied for the 6th worst scoring output in tournament history among P5 teams (in the shot clock era). I'm actually shocked there were that many worse games. Wisconsin once scored 32 points in a tournament game.

I’m not trying to pile on TJ, but…

Rasir Bolton: career 40% FG, 38% 3pt FG
Blake Hinson: career 41% FG, 36% 3pt FG

I get this hindsight analysis, and you're absolutely correct, but there needs to be equal acknowledgement of Iowa St's ability to play defense and run their offense enough to beat Texas, Baylor, Kansas, etc.

Honestly, there's only so many adjustments you can make, especially with a team that lacks as much talent as iowa st does.

The only reason we were in on AJ Green was his dad being a coach here. If he played for some A-10 school he wouldn't have gotten interest.

You honestly think TJ would say to Kyle Green, your kid is a great shooter but his defense isn't the best so he should probably stay at UNI?
