I know we are all excited about the freshmen coming in to the program next season, but unless I'm missing something, they aren't solving our jump-shooting problem. I assume that will be a key portal look, but easier said than done. Too bad things went the way they did with Caleb Grill.

After our last game of the season, we sit at 110 in KenPom offensive efficiency.
Exactly We need to sign two transfer shooters.

So you think it's a coincidence that after a sample size of 36 games Pitt just all of a sudden decided to play their best defense of the entire year?

Their defense rating on Torvick was 101.7 on average and they had 64.4 today.

I've seen them play a few times this year and watched every second of the Mississippi State game, they are a soft finesse team like Iowa with not much size or inside game.

Did you notice your Hoks also put together one good defensive game all season? It can happen. Weren't they great at offense? What happened last night?

Did you like ISU's win over ND ten years ago? ISU went against their trends for one game.

What happened to ISU's highly ranked offense in 2015's first round?

I point out that the metrics can be thrown out the window in one game, and then it happens, and you then bring metrics back in to argue.

This is true, but if you watched the Walmart Chet Holmgren twins play against Mississippi State, they were not just bad, they flat out didn't belong on the court. When I heard their center was out with injury and that's why the one started and the other played it made a little bit of sense, but still pretty surprising that they were even 2nd and 3rd string on a tourney team. They were that bad.

And today ISU's players didn't just play bad, but really bad.

8 days ago they looked very good.

It flips from time to time.

I was researching Pitt and those twins teally haven't played much this year either.

You're choosing watching Pitt in the ACC tournament vs watching the B12 tournament?
Yeah, their first game was on Wednesday so there weren't any Big 12 games that day and they got beat by Duke right after our Baylor game on Thursday. I'd rather watch that than Kansas-West Virginia for a 3rd time.

Sometimes I like to watch bubble teams and other conferences late in the year to get prepped for the tourney.

Lost by 18, not to one of the better teams in the tournament, but lost by 18 to a team that barely made it into the tournament. And this has been indicative of the last half of the season, where ISU just lays offensive eggs against not really good teams. A similar thing was going on last year.

There is something that needs fixing beyond talent. There is an issue with the strategic, fundamental, and mental preparation in the offensive game that the coaching staff needs to figure out. When you can beat BU three times, KU, and UT, your offensive shouldn't get shut down by a team that had to "play-in" to the tournament. When the simple, basic offense doesn't work, this team just falls apart.

Yep, 100% agree. I support TJ 1000% but this whole “we have no offensive talent” is because of his choices. We ran off Bolton and Hinson because they didn’t want to buy in on defense. That’s fine but then you are way more susceptible to scoring less than 50-60 points which we’ve done over and over and over.

TJ will right the ship but he will definitely have to change his approach. It will be interesting to see how next year goes.

I think pollard made him get rid of Bolton but he probably could have kept him if he wanted.

The ship doesn’t need to be righted. It’s a good ship already. But it does need to be adjusted a bit.

Why would Pollard make him get rid of Bolton?

Because he was supposedly bad during the 0-22 season and I think he talked to the other other guys o the team. Think about it, he made Bolton leave before he had been here for a week, there wasn't enough time for TJ to draw his own conclusion.

He maybe asked Pollard for his opinion but I highly doubt Pollard said you have to get rid of Bolton and TJ said I'll get right on that boss man.

That's pretty much the way CW made it sound.

Are we talking about Hinson who was 1-8 and 5 points today when we hate how TJ ran him off?

Was it just defensive buy in or were they just not into the team? It sounded like Hinson didn't even want to discuss ISU's players in interviews?

We need some guards that can score in the worst way. Otherwise, our offense might be worse next season. Keep in mind that Momcilivic is probably our only guy coming in that can shoot decent and I'm not sure if he will start.

Lipsey (G) - doesn't shoot
Williams (G)- not a good shooter
Guard/Wing - ?
Omaha (F)- more of defensive player
Big Rob/Tre King (F) - limited offensively

Bench -
Watson - really limited offensively (offense was mainly dunks)
Momcilivic (F)- decent offense, but a freshman
Fisch (F) - undersized and a freshman
Hamilton (G)- Freshman
Eli King (G) - barely played, not sure if he will even be here next year.

I'm not sure where our scoring is going to come from.

Hate is strong wording but it seems implied that just having them on the team fixes things. Watching Hinson today wasn't exactly much of a revenge tour offensively.

It would be interesting to see how much he was mentioned when the matchups were announced on Sunday. I obviously didn't read everything, but I don't remember a ton of comments other than something along the lines of "Oh yeah, Hinson is at Pitt". I don't think he was mentioned on this board more than a dozen times over the entire season. Yesterday, the Iowa media decided to make it a story by bringing it up a lot, which was weird. So the Iowa media obviously wanted us to discuss it.

And today, it was hard not to wonder what it would have been like to have another scorer on the team.
