A friend emailed this setup to me. I have never heard of anything like this. Kind of interesting and since it is helps charity I will probably get in. Allows procrastinators to still participate in the madness too.
NCAA Sweet 16 pool for City of Hope
The Particulars:
Buy in is $10 per entry.
There are 16 entries available per pool.
Payout is 50% of the pool, other 50% goes to City of Hope contribution.
You CAN be in more than 1 pool, (we would like to get about 10 pools going).
How it’s played:
16 people will draw 16 slips of paper (Don’t need to be present, we will draw for you), with each piece of paper containing 1 of the final 16 teams of the 2019 NCAA tournament.
When your team plays during the sweet 16, they must beat the spread.
The spread that is used will be the ESPN point spread, and that will be determined at 9:00am the morning before each game.
If your team is favored by 5 points and wins, and they win by 5 points or more, you advance and the person who had the other team is out.
If your team wins but only wins by 4 or less, you lose since the “spread” was 5 points and your team didn’t “cover the spread”. The other person then takes over your team moving forward (since their team is no longer in the tournament).
Last team/person standing wins 50% of the pot.
Example:
Tug draws Iowa State and Darren draws Kentucky
Iowa State is set to play Kentucky in the first game of the Sweet 16 (FYI, that is when there are only 16 teams left in the tourney of the original 68)
Iowa State is favored to win by 14 points (that’s the “spread”).
Iowa State wins the game, but only wins by 11 points. So that means Iowa State didn’t cover the spread, and Tug is out. Darren now takes over the Iowa State team (because Kentucky is now out) and moves on to the Elite 8 with Iowa State.
Last man standing gets the CASH!
