I think Otz is hoping he has a 3 point shooter. I'm not sure he does. Do we have anyone close to 30-35% made 3's (which isn't great)?

Who were our top three 3-point shooters last year, and their percentage made? Last year was not great. This year might be worse, I don't know.

Should we just focus on mid-range shooting this year, or do we have to shoot 3's even though we don't make many?
I'm pretty sure we are shooting better than last yr(too lazy to check) but our points per game is ahead of where we were last yr. Last yr were offensively challenged this yr we've put some points on the board. The 2nd half of today's game got ugly but we still won comfortably.

I made a comment earlier about the final 10 minutes being sloppy/afterthought, and it was, but no complaint overall. Maybe it was trying some lineup combos and plays and players being a little more loose, since the outcome wasn't in doubt.

We're going to get a major uptick in competition this week. I think the framework looks promising, we seem to have more options for scoring ... although still not always good at finishing; but getting to the line a little more often and we have at least some inside threat(s), more balanced between guards and 4/5.

Our defensive identity will continue to be reliable. Better competition will test that, of course.

I'm glad UWM pressed, it was good practice and ISU seemed to respond effectively, for the most part.

Looking forward to seeing what we can do vs. leap in competition. We'll have a lot better idea where it stands a week from now.

Villanova will be a good test to see where they really are. This nova team is, I think, at least a half step down from where they've been in recent years. This really isn't a challenging non con, we win Thursday and I could see us entering conference play with 2-3 losses tops. Iowa looks like they are about the same exact team from last year, so should be able to bully them real bad and ugly the game up. And they hated that last year

I'm still enjoying this young season and will take whatever it gives me.

But my oh my watching a backcourt that cannot shoot is difficult.

Kalscheur, Lipsey, Watson, and Grill are a combined 8/39 (20.5%) from three.

The trajectory of the offense would be completely different had AJ Green taken about 30 of those shots (and made about 13 or 14 of them in the process). Oh well. So much for that plan.

At least this is better than the Prohm years, which so often featured undersized guards who could neither shoot nor defend in the Big 12. These guys can't shoot but they're not small and they D the **** out.

Larry Morgan? I feel like Wade Lookingbill and AC Earl are going to suit up tonight.

Yeah, as a kid who grew up Iowa fan in 80s and early 90s…it was like a time warp to watching with my dad on Raycom Network. I still have some of the commercials burned into my brain.

Need to get Osun more shots than he had today. He had five shots and at least two were outside shots. Getting something going inside will help the outside shooting.

I‘s hard to compare to perfect non conf last year. Even our very best teams didn’t ace the non conf. Our historical best team lost to Drake.

I agree we lose 2-3 in non conf but I actually think we win 2-3 more in league play to even it out with last year.

It was a good learning game and hopefully Gabe gets better for the tournament. The shooting has been absolutely atrocious so far hopefully it at least improves soon.

CYPUTZ:
Green produced 22 points (8-14 FG, 6-12 3Pt), four rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes in Thursday's 117-105 win in Motor City.

Green played in just two of Milwaukee's first 14 games before being assigned to the Herd ahead of Thursday's game. Coming off the bench, he was a force and scored more than a point per minute. He's likely to play an important role with Wisconsin while he's with the team

I don’t care for the chant either, but did hear/see some of the players on the bench doing it sometimes today.

Yeah I think whatever works so it's not a big deal but it seems like it's harder to keep track of compared to a charge call.

What precisely is the chant for anyway, haha?

How are guys continously this bad at 3s? I've been on 3 Division 1 courts, Bramalage, Hilton, and Cameron Indoor, and it's not a long distance at all.

I was shocked how close it is compared to how far the 3 point and free throw lines look on TV, yet we have guys chucking up bricks all the time.

Did you have a 6'8" guy jumping out to block the shot while looking at the rim, after running up and down the court for 30 minutes on tired legs? Although, I somewhat agree with you. I was a legend in my own mind and shot well over 50% from deep in intramural/pickup play, thus find it difficult that they shoot so low. I was actually asked if I wanted to try out for the gray shirt practice squad (mid 80s), but as a 6' slow white guy in engineering, knew the correct answer was no.

Who were our top three 3-point shooters last year, and their percentage made? Last year was not great. This year might be worse, I don't know.
Percentage-wise, Kunc was our best 3P shooter last year (39%). Brockington and Jackson were a little behind that, but none of them took nearly the volume that Grill (35%) or Kalscheur (24%) did.
We were one of the worst teams in the country at 3P% last year. It would be tough not to be improved at least a little this year.
