***Official NU@ISU Post Game Thread***

For the last six weeks or more, the majority of the posts seem to be about how McD is a failure as a coach and the losses are completely his fault - not at all the fault of the players who can't make layups or shoot free throws or dribble, etc. If it is true that the losses are all because McD sucks as a coach, shouldn't McD also get sole credit for the wins?

Logic? really? on a thursday. You sir should be ashamed of yourself.

Not going to get into it in this thread, like I said, I think we should just congratulate the team on a win in this thread.
I agree. Good win guys! Any win over Nebraska in any sport is a good win and we seem to have done that a lot since last fall! Maybe we can get their WBB team in the tournament!

Actually, you contradict yourself. In blaming the players for the losses, as you do in this post, you are saying that they do get all the credit for the win last night.

Also, remember all of the posts about how much bad luck McDermott has had here. So that must mean that he had nothing to do with the win last night, because is was ALL good luck.

It's a win. Gets us to even. No worse than 11th in conference. Nothing to crow about. Not going to make ESPN classics anytime soon. But what it does is give many some more currency in the "why start over again" argument. And that is yes....it can get worse. So I guess until we cross that threshold...for what it's worth....soak it in Cyclone fans.

I could be wrong, but I thought it was one of Ames' worst kept secrets that Johnny was pushed out...

Oh yes Gene Smith wanted him to leave, because he could guarantee the next coach a good start with Hoiberg, Meyer, Julo, etc.

But Gene is a smart guy, He knew that he wouldn't win that fight. Johnny did what he thought was best for the program. But if he really would have wanted to come back, he would have. There was nothing Smith could have done about that, and he knew it.

In fact, Romie typed two letters for Johnny, one resigning, one saying that he was coming back for one more year. Smith knew that he was getting one of them. He wanted the resignation, and he got it. But he would have powerless to do anything if Johnny wanted to come back.

Both the Register and the Tribune made mention about how the players were happy leaving the game last night. That tells me that even the media could tell how much the close losses were wearing on this team. And it tells me that we still have a bunch of guys that want to win.

Last night was the first night where I thought I saw fear in our players eyes. They just looked like they knew the other shoe was going to drop. I'm glad they were able to work through that.

Johnny also thought that Hallihan was going to get the job. I'm guessing he wouldn't have quit if he had known who was going to get it.

This. It was a win which is great. Some people will forget the minor details of Nebraska being the worst team in the league, having 2 players suspended, and being on the road in a largely empty arena. A 4 point win under those circumstances isn't too impressive.

With that being said I don't think the players give a rip about who they beat as long as they finally won a game. I was definitely happy for them. I was actually happy for Greg too. Although he has done a terrible job at ISU, you could totally see that the mounting losses were really taking their toll on him. Finally he got a chance to feel good as I am sure he is pretty mentally and physically drained from the "sinking of the Titanic" type season the program is having.

wha?? I saw him fire one into the paint from the three point lane to i think it was hamilton. terrible decision.

he was dribbling on a fast break and i was saying quit dribbling quit dribbling, you will turn it over, you do it everytime...whoops there he dribbles off his legs and turns it over.

However, we don't win this game if he is not out on the floor. Great hustle (which he lacks sometimes) and good defense (which also lacks at times).

Good effort. Go state.

Strap definitely made a couple of dumb mistakes as you mentioned but he did do a very good job last night at trying to get others involved. I think he ended up with 4 assists and would have had a few more if not for fouls that were called after he passed it.

Before the game I was telling myself that this was a definite loss for ISU. I thought NU was playing much better and I really believed that our guys had cashed it in. I was wrong, they still have some fight in them. I am not saying I think they are a good BB team, but i don't think they have given up. Props to Gmac and the players for continuing to fight.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, or not in this thread, but we are actually tied for 10th in the league with a tie breaker win over Colorado. Just sayin.

Try looking at it this way. They had the opportunity for a maximum of one win tonight and that is exactly what they got.

See you can find a silver lining if you really try...It does require trying to be positive rather than trying to be negative.

Make the choice to be positive after a win for at least 24 hours.

sorry I am looking at long term

I disagree with your disagree. We had fouls to give. Buckley should have fouled the shooter again, before he had a chance to square up for the shot. That would have given them the ball again, in the same spot, with about a second left. At that point, it would have been next to impossible to get a good shot off. Bad execution at the end of the halves has been quite costly this season...

And I disagree here. Just look at the score after all that happened in those seconds: we were down 7 at half instead of 6. I'm really happy we won. I did not like the thought and plan for the last few seconds of the first half. To me, that showed the level of (lack of) confidence in our defense.
