If Coach TJ's recruiting doesn't get any better, Look for a lot more games just like this one in Hilton. The Okie State Coach can flat...Identify good players and then Recruit good players!
Coming off a 2-22 season, he got just enough to get us to the tournament, do you honestly think he doesn’t know he has to upgrade our talent, we were historically bad, not an easy sell to transfers looking at there final years of college

In some ways it was in that they knew they'd play and get more time. I'd guess it was easier for Hunter recommit knowing that ISU needed a PG.

The transfer season is pretty wild these days so let's see what TJ brings in. I keep saying it but give this type of roster a 3/4 spot who can hit a 3, handle and post up a bit and the offense is totally different.

Was the main difference their athleticism at the rim? It was glaring. Couple times I saw Conditt in the inside position ready to go up for the rebound and the Cowboy just plain snatched it out of the air above him.

I'd love to know what goes through Tre and Tristans heads when they watch Jaden and Gabe being allowed to play through multiple mistakes while they ride the pine.

I am still in awe just how bad our offense can be that we broke the record for fewest points scored in Hilton TWICE this year now. We just broke it back on 1/22 when we lost to TCU 59-44 and just a little over a month later we set the bar even lower with 36. On the positive side we don't have any more home games left so we can't break it again but sure hope we can find some offense in the transfer portal so we aren't flirting with that record again next season.

It is strange how Grill can be lights out from 3 on the road and ice cold at home in conference play he is 11-47 from the field in Hilton (.234) and on the road 23-43 (.535) which is night and day and usually shooters seems to be more comfortable shooting on your familiar and friendly home court than they do on the road.

Also as bad as we were struggling to score last night I don't know why we did not try to put a different wrinkle in our offense by putting Enaruna and Jackson in the 2nd half some to see if they could provide a spark. OSU was long and physical and blocking just about everything when we attacked the rim and we were not hitting our 3's either just 2-17 so why not see if Tre maybe could get hot or Enaruna could get some cuts to the basket and stretch the defense out some if they did. It wasn't until late in the game we even saw the small ball lineup with Kunc at the 5 but by then it was obvious even that was not going to pull us out of the funk we were in.

That was one problem but the not being able to dribble and the team just not really looking like they had a purpose only made it worse.

I didn't think ISU had an advantage athletically anywhere; they would have needed to shoot like they did in Stillwater to have a chance.

Both those guys play a lot better defense than Tre and Tristan do. Defense was not the problem last night though so as I stated in my last post I wish both could of got some minutes to see if we could pull ourselves out of our shooting funk.

Defense is hard to quantify but I find it hard to believe Tristan has been unplayably bad on that end. Plus, he's been the second best rebounder behind Brockington on the roster, another area that was sorely hurting last night.

I had always heard Jaden was in for offensive production. His defense was his weak point. He is all or nothing on defense. Does a nice job if he can just stick to one guy but gets very lost any time movement forces another player into his area.

Conditt has 0 rebounds in 18 minutes last night and Jones 2 in 12 minutes. This isn't the only game our big men have been non-existent on the boards. Rebounding is an effort and technique stat. Dennis Rodman made a living off and he was probably shorter than the 6-7 height he was listed at and was limited offensively. if it wasn't for our guards crashing the boards like they do teams would be getting a heck of a lot more 2nd chance points than the already do.

I love the energy Conditt can show at times but his best season statistically has been his sophomore year and he's never really realized his potential for some reason and turned that into some consistent stretches of good play. And that is not from a lack of opportunity either as both Prohm and TJ gave him plenty of chances and playing time to work through things and carve out a bigger role and he never has been able to do that for some reason. Athletically and skill wise he's shown us some flashes at times just how good he can be but for some reason he's just never been able to turn a big game into a prolonged stretch of good play.

Give anyone the athleticism of Dennis Rodman and rebounding goes better.

To me Jaden has made some big strides defensively with the increased playing time and he's much longer and more active on that end than Tre usually is. Seems like he's much more focused and locked into the games now that he is getting a bigger role than he was just coming off the bench in garbage time earlier this season.

You guys are nuts. We'll lose to Baylor and in the first round of the Big 12 tourney and still be an 8 seed at worst.

If we look bad in both those games it is not going to help our seeding regardless how many Q1 wins we have because we'd be essentially limping into the tournament. We need to win 1 in KC to avoid slipping to a 10 seed or worse I think. The good thing though is if we get seeded somewhere between a 7-10 seed in the NCAA tournament we've been playing teams all season in the Big 12 that are probably tougher than anyone we'd get matched up with in that range so if we can win 1st round we are in a nice position with a team having to prepare for us with a quick turnaround.

A loss on the road against a 1 seed and on a neutral court against a top 3 seed will not hurt. Just look at our resume compared to the 9 seeds on Bracket Matrix. It's not even close.

I guess I have two thoughts on that:

A) I don't see Jaden as a great defender. He certainly had his moment against K State, but I don't think he's head-and-shoulders better than Tre or Tristan, and especially Tristan. I've seen several occasions of him struggling to keep his guy in front of him off the dribble.

I think his role has been needing to be in when we go small because we can't afford to go small and also have Tre out there. But we played all the bigs last night for the most part.

B) With Gabe, he's a good on-ball defender but there comes a tipping point where his offensive struggles outweigh that. Last night, it was painfully obvious we couldn't score. Most other coaches in that setting go way down their bench hoping for a spark. Here, you don't even have to go that far. You can go with the guys who were apparently worthy of minutes up until 2 weeks ago.

We are now 42nd in NET this morning. I think the committee will have us in for our quad 1 record, but how much will they look at other factors? Likely will have lost 7 of the last 11 heading into selection Sunday won’t be a great look. Plus the fact that we have been blown out quite a bit. I see us likely as a 10 seed and honestly that’s probably pretty fair for us.

We will see. If our net is closer to 50 come selection Sunday, I don’t think the committee is going to place us quite that high.

Yep still historically a really good season for Iowa State especially considering where the program was last year.
