First off, It was great to be back in Hilton on Friday night and to have that kind of atmosphere given the past couple years.

Second, I loved watching how intense our coaching staff is on the bench. TJ, Blount and Green are so engaged throughout the game. Those 3 are constantly up hollering getting the guys in position or to move without the ball. Drob was the outlier of the group as he seemed to sit on his hands a bit throughout the game. You can see where the intensity comes from on the floor and its a direct reflection of our staff. Excited to watch how this team progresses this year.

Don't know if the TV cameras caught it, but watching Kyle Green right after Bob's hustle and beat the 7 footer down the floor dunk was fantastic. He was so excited for Bob and could see that hustle pay off.

What stood out to me during timeouts on the floor was how many guys are in matching t-shirts and pants. I remember the day when you had a head coach and a couple of assistants on the bench. Now there seem to be more people in street clothes than players.

We joked a couple times during timeouts that we had twice as many people in Red polos than jerseys!

I think more of an LE way. They are trying to score, just run into dry spells. Some of Tim's teams I swear if not for the shot clock would have won 2-0. Besides, Bankhead, Pratt, Cato and Holloway weren't exactly scoring machines.

Pratt was a scoring machine in traffic in the paint! Dude could offensive rebound and I have no idea how he got some of his in-traffic shots down without being blocked.

Footwork, fakes, and body control. KP was an amazingly unique player. One of my favorite Cyclones of all time. Just a brilliant player.

He was also very good with his rather ample ass. He would often bump the defender with his rump or hip just as he was gathering to jump so the defender was a little off balance. It was often just enough give him the advantage against a taller defender.

looks like Ore St plays at Tulsa tonight, good measuring stick for them...
They did not look good against Tulsa in losing that one. As mentioned way earlier in the thread when a few people were thinking bubble team for us after beating Oregon State, pump the breaks.

That was a great win for Iowa State because we needed to start to turn this program in the right direction after last year. However when it comes to actual resume boosting I don’t think come season’s end it’s that good of a win.

Oregon State got red hot in the conference tournament and NCAA Tournament last year, which every year there is at least one team that does this. They were just a decent/mediocre team last year. Finished 10-10 in the PAC-12 and 20-13 overall in the regular season.

Yep, any win is cause for celebration (particularly over teams that are far more experienced). Oregon State is predicted to be a mid-pack PAC12 team, and may be overrated due to the late season run last year. But still a good early showing by our guys, and a confidence booster.

Just kind of fade back and drop it like a feather off the top of the board.

Not going to go back through but go back through this thread and a couple of others regarding the men’s team.

It’s not a lot but there were a few. Let’s see how the rest of non-conference goes first. In the end though this team is already miles ahead and more fun to watch. Just keep improving and see how the season shakes out. And if they somehow are a bubble team I will eat the most delicious crow ever.
