I actually think it’s funny that MC is stealing ISUs 3 star players. It will serve him and Pedo St well as they go up against 5 star recruits from Michigan, Oregon, USC and Ohio St. Good luck with that Matt. I look forward to your fall from grace.
Seems odd to slam guys that were coming to ISU when Campbell's teams were able to compete with some of the best in college football with exactly that type of guy (and the fact that all these guys we're hoping to retain were that type of guy). Almost like saying that our program sucks and then laughing at them for it.

I don't know where recruiting services rated or maybe it was just local mouths that said this was our best recruiting class ever. Everyone was a 3*, and if you look at many of the offers??? We have classes with multiple 4* guys before. I was going to trust CMC. But if i was. PSU fan id be slightly concerned, but it early. Ultimately, recruiting Rankings are worth the paper they're printed on.

Some of the fans here are letting their negative emotions get the best of them and not posting the most objective thoughts. IMHO, I think what people are trying to say is PennSt fans don't see themselves as a developmental program and Campbell may not have the same runway to bring in players that will take a couple of seasons to develop into 4 star talents.

Unlike Iowa State the name "Penn State" sells itself. Matt won't have to do a Tony Robbins on high star recruits as it will be much easier to get them in the door and looking. Plus with the money........recruiting will be much easier. Now, what happens after that I'm not so sure unless Matt fine tunes his game day coaching.

Why? The recruiting class was done. They're not going to start over and recruit a completely new set of players in 1-2 weeks, and the higher level guys they would go after are committed to other schools already. If anyone judges Campbell off this year's recruiting class, they're morons.

We will lose some. We will keep some. IMO it is a crapshoot on Rocco. He is likely to get a nice payday from PSU. Anthony Becht is from that area originally. It’s a great opportunity for him. Although he has a chance to set some Cyclone records. Some of the Iowa born guys will stick. There’s a real opportunity to get starting spots immediately at the P4 level. Jimmy Rogers is a winner. He’s bringing in some great assistants. Those that stay will be glad they did.

Rational post and I agree. I wonder if the players with one year of eligibility will be hesitant to take the money and run. The known at ISU is that they will be starters, paid well, and finish out their career at a place they came to and finished out. The unknown at PSU is whether they will be competing again for minutes with better players for less minutes, receive higher pay (one and done thou), have no real connection to the school. I'd be more concerned about our best underclassmen leaving for multiple years of better pay but again balancing out competing against better players for playing time with the chance of becoming back ups. It will be interesting to see how this plays out with the top half dozen, Rogers has some things in his favor and an increase in pay at the ISU level will help with retainment of these key players.

I know it might be difficult, but if Rocco is going to cost a large portion of NIL, we might need to consider other options. With our limited resources, we need to do a Moneyball approach.

Also, I wonder if CJR would consider hiring a staff member to hunt for above and beyond NIL opportunities for players.

Classes are often the "best ever" due to changes in the rating system. Not sure if that's the case this year or not or if it's just one of the services (247, On3/Rivals/ESPN), but team rankings continue to climb in general.

Rocco will need to decide between a decent pay boost to run the system he knows with no guarantee he plays at PSU, versus taking somewhat less to start his senior year and chase the record book here with new coaches/system but an opportunity to achieve permanent legend status if he stays at ISU (as a player who is unlikely to get NFL looks.) I know what I would do, but don't fault the guy for struggling with it.

Believe the "best ever" was team ranking, so that would not be affected by the changes as it's relative. Could be wrong on that. I pulled all the data on this topic a couple years ago and, in general, you are correct. The rating of each player goes up incrementally each season.

this year is gonna be a weird year for recruiting and hopefully an anomaly. Penn State fans are upset they're getting these three star guys that used to be committed to ISU and I'm annoyed we're getting these undersized guys/guys who had weak offers, but I also have to remind myself that, much like Matt's doing at PSU, Jimmy already has a relationship with these kids so he's probably unable to 1. find quality guys who arent already committed (outside of transfers) and 2. recruit higher ranked guys/guys with better offers, when he's already got a relationship with these kids. So, right now i'm not sold, but I'm also sure Penn State fans arent sold on Campbell

TLDR: I need to remind myself/others? to step back from the ledge during this wild time

Yeah, the signing day has gone and Penn St waited so long that recruits are kinda locked down so now lower 3 star guys are better to take and have a class than have a huge void. Maybe some will develop, maybe some will leave or get ran off by getting recruited over. Remember the year we picked up a JUCO QB late spring that no one seemed to want in order to have someone who actually showed he could play at any level at all?

Don't disagree with your statement. Penn State will recover from their anomaly recruiting cycle faster than Iowa State will. This one event will be more painful and difficult for ISU to dig out from.

If it was hard to raise NIL money before, it will be even more so now.

See that's my whole problem with the statement that Campbell left the program in a better spot than he found it. In its previous form with all of the coaches and players in place that was absolutely true. However all of those coaches, the majority of our best players, and the majority of our recruits will be gone by the end of this. It's going to be an entirely new program, not the same program in a better spot and only time will tell what that program looks like.
