Niang wasn't the same player this year. There were signs of that all year. Almost played like the success got to his head. He was forcing it too much in this last game.

That and BDJ is a bad egg. He just is. It was obvious what kind of person he is when the whole story about his neighbors came out. If that's the way he acts off the court then that's the kind of person he truly is. You can't reference an interview or article about him to justify he's a good person. Of course he's going to portray himself that way to the public. Character is shown off the court and that story really reflected poorly on what kind of personality he has. Unfortunately it didn't look like he adjusted real well once he lost his starting role and McKay started to take more of the spotlight.

LOL!

To anyone who cares, we aren't the only team to lose in the first round as a 2 and a 3, Georgetown did that before us. 2013 (#2, went down to Florida Gulf Coast) and 2010 (#3, went down to Ohio).

So we got that going for us.

Does anyone feel Baylor and ISU should have switched opponents? Both teams would have matched up better.

Should have kicked UAB's butt regardless. If we're really hoping for an alternative number 14 seed to face off against, we know there was never any hope to begin with

Pathetic game and effort. Now I'm stuck in Louisville watching games I could give zero ***** about

These are the people I really feel sorry for. Growing up in Minnesota and being an ISU alum, I learned to never spend big money to follow my sports teams. Now I can just spend $30 to get plastered and eat beer and pizza at home instead.

I'm honestly not ******. I'm trying to be, but I'm just not. I'm more worried about the embarrassment over the next couple of days when my friends are flipping me **** about this. The funny thing is, it will be the answer I always give. "ISU gonna ISU"

Is anyone really surprised at all though. I was telling my wife all year, "If we continue to have stretches of bad, like we did all year, we are going to have an early out in the tourney." I honestly did not think it would be this early, but I am just not surprised at all. This was a team all year that had the potential to be the best team in the country, but they often played like being the best was a gift and not something they had to go out and earn. This is just another notch of a turd laid on an otherwise outstanding season.

It's almost fitting that it ended this way. It's proof in the post history of this season on this board. There are probably as many posts about how bad this team was as there were about how great they were. They lacked focus all year and it's really too bad, they had the talent to be something special.

My former boss sent me an email.

Boss: Really? UAB
Me: We're a football school now.
Boss: Nice

This. I was expecting a 2nd round (the real 2nd round) flame-out. Not surprised at all we couldn't make it past the 1st round.

Definitely the worst part isn't the loss, but all my friends/co-workers who will be asking "what happened to ISU?" for the next few days.

I was going to post in the "how far does ISU go" thread last night, but it didn't seem to be logical — I thought we might fare well at regional level, could challenge both Gonzaga and Duke, with game in Big 12 territory, but it might be actually more challenging to get out of the first two rounds alive, even though Iowa State clearly should be able to beat all the other 3 teams in the pod.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but I'm pretty sure you just answered your own question. We lost the game because of effort. Poor rebounding, little hustle. We've had several games this year where it seemed like we've overlooked opponents, come out flat, and lost. I'm guessing that's what they're referring to. How many times did we hear the team more or less admit that they overlooked a team after a loss or a close win? More than once.

I won't say I saw it coming, but I am also not shocked that it happened. I really hope it's not something that carries over into next season. We will have a veteran team next year, and I really hope Georges, Naz, Monte and McKay take it upon themselves to make sure we don't overlook anybody next year. That's what it takes to win a regular season conference championship and deal with being a high seed in the tournament. Win @ TTU and KSU this season and we win the conference.

Still a great season. Tough way to go out, but I'm happy with where our program is at and where it's headed. Being a high-seed year after year is a desirable position to be in, and getting upset on occasion is something that comes with the territory.

Agree, but I didn't think the team was capable of losing in the first round, especially to this specific opponent. Losing to SMU/UCLA in the second round I thought was absolutely in play, but not this early. Sure, the team had some crap games during the season, but it's a long season, and EVERY team has some down games where they bring poor energy. It happens. Not a big deal in my book. Figured that, ya know, the NCAA freaking tournament would at least focus the team enough to play with great energy. But losing the game because of lazy rebounding is just so frustrating since UAB is garbage. Man this game is more disappointing the more I think about.

I still can't believe this **** happened today. Feels like we haven't even played yet. I think I'm still in shock.
