This reminded me a lot of the South Carolina game. Niang trying to do a bit much when he was double teamed in the lane, combined with our inability to hit from the outside really hurt. But the stat that sticks out is the rebounding. They just wanted it more than we did, and we couldn't answer them with offensive boards on our end.

McKay played really well, and he finished with six blocks. I don't know what was going on with BDJ, but it seems like his attitude was what led to his benching and only getting five minutes.

Hogue turned into a great outside shooter this year, but I noticed he didn't seem as comfortable operating down low and often threw up prayers after an offensive rebound. Not sure what was going on there.

The biggest problem from this game was that the team still didn't realize it's bad to try to throw McKay a wrap-around pass at his chest in heavy traffic. That's what caused many of our turnovers to start the game and allow UAB to crawl back after we were up 12-2.

I have a feeling this thread may go on for months and months...

Thank God for Royals Baseball starting up soon. Never thought I'd say that!

How does this narrative still exist? Mediocre talent, a hell of a lot of heart and coaching.

I don't want to be overly critical of the team, but you are underestimating how much heart we play with. We are not out-talenting many teams. We are not big, overly athletic, quick, and we lacked true shooters and ball handlers. What we do have are two highly skilled guys and several other players that play harder and smarter than the opposition.

Thank you for pointing out the reality. I would add that consistency was a problem this year (obviously), but we beat a lot of teams with more talent than we had. Winning the B12 tournament 2 years in a row hardly jives with some of the nasty comments about the team and the coach that we are seeing on here.

We now get to enter the off season on cyclonefanatic.com

A strange and dangerous place.

so what's worse, having to deal with this all summer or last year knowing that one damn foot was probably all that stopped you from having a championship?

This team proved several times this year that they did not have the focus required to take their physical talents and will themselves to win. Other times, like the last two weeks, they did. That will drive Fred crazy all summer.

ISU was in first place in the Big 12 with I think 4 to play, and two of those were at home. It bothered me when they lost back to back games to Baylor in Ames and at KSU when they controlled their own destiny. But I should have paid attention to it more.

Fred has got his work cut out trying to find a way to get more consistent play out of his group.

It feels like a bad dream that you still haven't woken up from. With the new bodies coming in and a promising nucleus coming back I still have load of optimism for next year. Unfortunately, this one will take a while to get over though.
