I will take a stab at that one. From what I saw our guys are running around lost, trying to play one on one, forcing terrible shots, nobody is crashing the boards, we like to throw passes to invisible guys that end up out of bounds, etc... Our set plays coming out of timeouts are some of the worst plays I have ever witnessed in my life. I want to puke just thinking about it.

Good... so I'm not the only one that saw the same thing as you did.

I don't even blame DG for shooting so much because everyone else on the team stood around and watched him and didn't even move. He was looking for someone to pass to most of the time, but nobody wanted the ball, so he took it upon himself. At least he was aggresive... problem was... he was the only one that was.

This team is talented but when they step on the court and it is total chaos..... That my friends is on the coaching staff. Crazy idea.... call a play to get our star player the freakin' ball when the game is on the line.

I've been one of the BIGGEST GMac supporters on this site, but I have to tell ya... he'd better make the NCAA tourney this year... or else he has to go. And it pains me greatly to say that.

UNI is a much more disciplined team in every aspect. Our athleticism alone made this a close game. We were outrebounded big time. We were outhustled big time. We were outsmarted big time. And we were outcoached BIG TIME tonight.

There was only one team on the floor tonight that even looked like a fundamentally sound basketball team... UNI. Not one single UNI player would have shot the ball that Dendy did near the end of the game. They all know their roles and play them well. UNI manhandled Brackins all night long, and took it to us physically on the offensive side and got to the FT line. I can't imagine what a team like Texas will do to us on the interior?

If we don't make the NCAA tourney this year, don't expect to make it for a while. Brackins and Gilstrap, our two best athletes by far, are gone next year. At this point, we will be MUCH worse next season. Who is going to play inside for us next year besides Hamilton? Ejim and Phillips are basically guards.

I'm just sick and tired of watching GMac congratulate the UNI coaches and players nearly every single year. It gets VERY old GMac. We know you still have a place in your heart for UNI.... maybe you need to go back there and be an assistant for Jacobsen?

And I have been one of the biggest critics of Mac on this board until a couple of weeks ago, when I stated that I retired........and now this. He is making it very difficult for me not to come out of retirement. This group tonight did not look like they wanted to be out there. It reminded me of last year's South Dakota State game. Why? The last three games are a mirror image of the last three years. Why? I thought the run and gun was the way we were going to go........and yet the last three games, the opponent has dictated the pace. Why? Should it matter who the opponent is......RUN! If you lose....you lose. But this trying to micomanage the quarter horses you have recruited isn't going to work. You did what you had to do when you were playing walk ons........but these guys aren't walk ons. Let them go! And I can tell you right now.......we play a game in the 50's or 60's against Iowa......we lose! That's their game. I expected them to come out breathing fire after that game against NW.....instead, they p***** down their legs....at home! Why? We may put a good fight against Cal..and maybe even pull an upset. I sure hope so. Because folks......if what we saw tonight is to be expected when we play a tough opponent this year......there will be no post season.

Do we have permission to start worrying now?

I cannot even count the number of times I threw my head back in disgust tonight. Dendy's shot was terrible. And now two games in a row we've have somebody toss up a stupid three with 8 seconds left in the game, rather than try to find a better shot. PAY ATTENTION TO THE CLOCK! You can do better than try a desperation three with 8 seconds to work with. Diante shot a couple of threes he shouldn't have, but at lest he made one.

We just got destroyed inside. I don't understand it. Every game. And our rebounding is terrible. There is no excuse for how bad we look.

We cannot keep giving up leads, and as I said after Northwestern, we cannot keep losing games like this that we should win if we want to even have a chance at making the tournament. At this point, I expect 5 non-conference losses. That is inexcusable.

I have been behind McDermott the past few years, but I'm off the bandwagon as of tonight. If we don't make the tournament this year, it will be next to impossible to justify keeping him here. If we don't make it and he stays, Hilton will be a ghost-town next year.

Dendy shooting that shot with under one minute is NOT coaching... McD was yelling at players to pull it out... I think Garrett was trying to get ball back too. At some point the players have to know the situation too.

Simple fact.......in his time here......GMac has no signature wins........NONE! But there are plenty of games lost that should not have been lost. He gets out-coached regularly.

LE, Floyd, Orr didn't win every game. But they rarely got out-coached.
Last season in the Big 12, the Baylor game was the only time all season that we outscored the other team in the second half.
That's coaching.
Now it's happened to Northwestern, and to UNi.
That's an almost unbelievable standard of ineptness.
That's Greg Mcdermott's fault.

That's an amazing statistic, if accurate and I assume it is.

I agree, the way teams separate from us in the 2nd half is very concerning. Last year, a lot of posters argued for the "lack of athleticism" explanation, but that can't cut it this year. 2nd half adjustments by opposing coaches has been an on-going issue.

The last three seasons were pretty long years too.
Everyone here said this would be the year.
Well, it is.
It's the year Wesley Johnson becomes an all-american.
It's the year Harrison Barnes becomes a Tar Heel.

And once again, it's the year Greg Mcdermott gets outcoached, game after game after game.
.

This.

I'm sorry but this is a meltdown game if there ever was one. We can not lose to a mo vally team in Hilton if we want this season to be special. We just can't.

Please, by all mean fellow Cyclones....meltdown.

perfect meltdown song. Not a huge NBack fan but this one is actually not to bad.

3 losses out of 4 games against UNI for McDermott is unconscionable. I mean, its flat out ridiculous how many games McD has lost to MVC teams since he's come to ISU. I think he's only won twice in 4 seasons of playing against MVC teams!! Lost twice to Bradley, 3 times to UNI, 3 times to Drake, and there are probably more that I'm not remembering.

These guys should be able to dominate the paint. Worse than losing these games early in the season is the fact that our guys are giving all of our future opponents the gameplan for beating us on tape. Play physical against us, deny our one shooter the ball, and front our two big guys when they're trying to post up, sit back and watch all the unexplainable substitutions, and the game is yours.

most disappointed in our hustle

I totally agree with this too. Specifically liked the ball that was rolling around in our back court and Brakins had the chance to jump on it and instead the uni guard (farokmanesh?) jumped on it and didn't even get tied up but got a time out...woops.

Did anyone ever think we could come back and win once UNI hit that last three? Since MCd has been here, have you ever watched a game when we were down and expected to come back and win? I know in the last 2 minutes of any close game, someone from the other team will come up clutch, and hit a big shot. I know we will make some dumb mistake (like having a first year player chuck up a 15 foot airball when we are up 1 with the ball and there is about 30 seconds left on the shot clock), and ultimately lose the game. It has been like that since Mac has been here. It reminds me a lot of McCarney, he would always find a way to lose a close game.

Does Mac ever remind the team while in the huddle....
Hey guys, we have an All-American post player, lets look to get him the ball.
Guys, remember to block out, they are killing us on the boards.
Team, we are up late in the game, lets look to work some clock, making sure to get a good shot.

I swear, the most basic of basketball fundamentals are ignored time and time again. As many posters have noted, the lack of toughness on this team is pathetic. I am sure a lot of people on here remember the back to back Big 12 Championship teams of Larry. I loved to watch them play, you knew they were bringing the defense and hustle EVERY single game. If you had more talent, it didn't matter. No MVC team was going to come in to Hilton and sneak out a win. Oh, how I long for those days.

Add in the perplexing substitutions, and you are right on.

We are now in year four...and have pretty much the exact same issues. Something isnt right here.
