We have to be the luckiest fanbase in the country. First all three networks carried the presser live, you can't buy better pub than that. Then Paul came off as totally likeable, handsome and well spoken speaker.

But where we really got lucky was Auburn took dead weight off our hands and paid us 3/4 of a million to do it. We didn't have to go through another year with no hope. We don't know if Paul is going to work out but at least there is hope.

I agree. Odds of Chizik having a good (not great) season next year were 50/50 AT BEST. And this being ISU, 50/50 is more like 10/90 odds. I think Auburn did us a favor my taking our dead wait, and providing a nice SEC experience for our new coach.

I love the guy,

but,

uh uh uh uh..

Makes you realize how sharp Gene was in his speech, too bad he was a coward and a terrible head coach.

Of course, Gene read his speech of a sheet of paper. Rhoads seemed more sincere. Although, there wer a lot of ums and uhs. I noticed that on some of his interviews on youtube earlier today as well. But, the important thing is that he's passionate about this job, this opportunity, his community, and he's got me pretty pumped up for football again. It's been awhile...

Ya know would it be great in 2-3 years when ISU goes to a bowl game if they would draw Auburn and Rhoads' team knocks the living snot out of Chizik's team? Sometimes those things are karma and have a way of working out. Ha ha.

Ch 13 interviewed his parents.

His mom has Alzheimers - so, while that has to be really hard for Coach Rhoads, it's got to be good to be closer to home.

No doubt this guy wants to be in Ames.

It was reported by 13 or 8 that Rhoads has already contacted Mike Woodley, now at Grand View, about coming back; it'll be just like the Mac days. I LOVE IT! Now we can go back to recruiting Iowa again.

I could see it happening next year. Auburn will be around .500 and we have a chance to be the same. Could be a helluva Independence Bowl match up in 09. I'd gladly go to Shreveport for that.

Wow I was pumped about this hire until I saw that. One thing I know is that to be a good coach you have to radiate self-confidence and project that unto your players. All he did was cry like a baby, kind of like all you wimps on this site.

I decided today that I am going to save our football program. I am going to become a coach, and you can see me in about 15-20 years when I make it to the level required. Until then, enjoy your vaseline-covered hinies being rubbed and promised a good future while terrible coaches and teams file through.

Somebody forgot to clean their bong today.

I'm ready to run through a brick wall for this guy!!!! Love this guys emotion, passion and humility.

Great hire! Great hire!

That was one of Mac's better traits...Depending the offense, the guys returning and the schedule, we have a shot at being pretty decent. :notworthy:

I also like hearing Rhoads talk first about being a "smart" team. Like when he was here before, he does not tolerate mental mistakes and dumb penalties. Hopefully those days are behind us...

"I told Jamie, you sell the hope, but it's my jobs to make that in to faith."

"I have deep roots here."

"I can see myself here for a long time."

Alright, I'm impressed. Way to go Jamie! Now lets hope he can get those boys to win a few next year!

And the faith into confidence, and the confidence into victories. I stood up out of my chair and cheered the tv!

Hey Tornado Man...

This isn't Dan McCarney...keep that in mind. PR will do things HIS way and it may or may not resemble anything we saw during the McCarney era.

I am hoping he has all the positives that DannyMac had without the negatives (ala he knows how to win on game day).

I never I thought I would see those words uttered....nor would I have thought that I would agree with going back to Shreveport but I'm on board!

I really thought PR did a nice job during the press conference. It was refreshing to have our head coach proud to be from the Ames area. I especially liked it when he described the day today in Ames as being beautiful.

As far as recruiting, having a head coach that understands what a great place Ames is, and the State of Iowa, is a real plus.

I am very excited for the future of Iowa State Football!!!!

That will be nice, but I am MUCH more concerned about recruiting TX and FL and I will be very interested to see what experience/ties the staff will have to these more important recruiting areas.

He said he and Mac talked today; I'd bet it was about putting his staff together. I guess we'll see how many former Mac asssistants eventually come on board. There is a lot of Danny Mac DNA in Paul Rhoads.

And that's not all bad.. Dan had a lot of passion(especially early in his tenure). What I like about Paul Rhoads is that he appears to have a pretty smart brain in that head. Don't let the all shucks speech fool you.
