And a lot of those times we give up a basket with under :10 on the shot clock.
Really, what is it with this fan base that isn't able to process the slightest bit of criticism, regardless of how true it may be?
You completely inferred something from what I wrote wrong. I totally agree with you, which is why i said *LAPSES*, but you have to realize there's a difference between NOT PLAYING DEFENSE and having lapses.
If we didn't play defense, it wouldn't matter what team we're playing. We wouldn't be holding them under 10 seconds every damn game. I watched McDermott ball for 4 seasons, and we almost never held the opponent under 10 seconds. Every once in awhile, but it was once every handful of games.
Just because you give up an easy bucket with 7 seconds on the shot clock doesn't mean you weren't playing defense for the other 28 seconds. It means you have a defensive lapse most likely..that your hard work at getting it under 10 seconds was all for nothing.
Our problem is that we play perimeter defense well sometimes, then the other team catches someone napping basically somewhere within the perimeter and they get an easy bucket. Easily correctable although might need more time than a week. We are Jekyll and Hyde. Sometimes our defense is sufficient, and sometimes it's bad. But it's not TERRIBLE.
