Is Grill better the second time around? I don’t see it. Got burned on d, one time no idea where the ball was and can’t hit the broad side of a barn as a shooter.
Very similar player and I know he will make some strides but I think we have to accept this is probably what he is. One of the reasons when I looking at the incoming class which I really like still think it’s lacks the outside shooter we need. Transfer Portal might be the option needed for that.

Why did we abandon the full court press? It worked we got back within 3 and then stopped and got blown out.

honestly I think it’s more that there’s literally no below average teams in the big 12. The worst big 12 team this year would be in the top half of the big 10 imo.

This team regularly misses layups. Can’t regularly miss layups and beat too many teams. Good first step though, hopefully TJ can keep improving.

I think he is having to balance the success of it with completely gassing our players. Depth not doing us any favors. Walker must be really down the depth chart for him to not even give us meaningful spot minutes to allow us to keep it on longer.

We do miss a ton of layups and shots from inside 5-7'. Some are contested but a lot really aren't. When they cut in to our game while TX OSU were still going on GC missed a bunny on a nice inbounds play. After GK missed his first couple 3s he got to the lane 2x but missed both pullups. I think someone else missed one in that stretch too. Make those and we're tied at 12 rather than down 12-6 and maybe we'd actually play with some confidence. We looked tight on O basically the entire game. Some of it is just crap luck but the game changes a lot if we could ever get the lid off the basket early.

Well we’re bringing in another 6ft guard who can’t shoot- hopefully King can.
Probably don't want to have to rely on freshman to be your best shooters anyway but it's pretty imperative that bringing in some scorers next year through the portal will be really big. Especially if Brockington leaves, the offense for next season is gonna be very reliant on some huge strides from guys like Hunter and Enaruna. I like all three commits but am a little unsure where you for instance fit Lipsey on the court with Hunter unless at least one of the two becomes a real shooter. All things considered, still pleased with where the program is and is headed, though.

Quick pulse check: Will you be disappointed if this team does not make the tourney?
Only because I started seeing hope that they could pull it off, now to watch them visibly regress. Same team that takes Baylor to 5 points and loses @KU to a buzzer beater now gets blown up at home by a lower half conference team.

I'll say yes but that it's mostly my fault for probably getting ahead of myself and where the team was realistically at. I'll be more disappointed if we keep seeing similar stuff on the offensive end, though, because it's not as impossible as it has seemed at times this year to generate better looks on that end.

Playing against someone more athletic than you doesn't preclude you from scoring. It requires that you know some techniques to offset the talent disparity. And frankly, it really didn't look to me like TCU was some kind of super-athletic juggernaut.

No but they were taller and able to move better vs. this ISU team so ISU would have had a harder time scoring. It will be similar with OSU.

I agree that ISU's best bet is to get inside, but even when they get any sort of look, they struggle to finish at the rim.

Heck if they shoot even just a little better from 3, which they ARE capable of, they have a better chance today. They had really good looks and it's a little crazy that D1 basketball players in 2022 struggle so much with it.

When we used to move and cut on offense and move the ball….. Grill got open looks from 3 and was pretty decent. Lately he’s had to force guarded 3’s….. big difference.

You don't think ISU was moving and cutting on offense today?
