Listen I don’t know crap about USA soccer. However, if there is anybody prioritizing the MLS over the USMNT on that staff they need to be canned immediately. There is one thing that can grow soccer exponentially in this country and that’s the national team doing well that we can all get behind.

And seriously, how much money did Fox lose tonight with the national team not making it.

That's why they are on the staff and JK is gone, because they prioritize MLS. See MLS rights and USMNT rights belong to the same group, that's the main reason why anyone wants an MLS franchise. What better way to boost both groups than choosing MLS players for USMNT games? Except when they majorly ******* blow it...

The next couple of days is going to be painful. Listening to all the sports talking heads who haven't given two ***** about the sport now pontificate on how to fix the USMNT is going to make me want to drink bleach.

Who’s everyone routing for then in Russia? I’m back in the Iceland bandwagon, so they’ll probably end up in the GOD.

My nationalities, which include Germany and Poland that have already qualified, Italy which will likely qualify, and Ireland which is also still in it. Also Argentina - while my grandfather was full-blooded Italian, he was born there. For some dumb reason I also root for England, and I'll likely be rooting for Iceland because of the story.

Interesting - the Netherlands also failed to qualify, so misery loves company.

The State of Hockey
It depends on what you mean by "hurting" US soccer. The USMNT is going to be the laughing stock for a little bit on the international front, but I think soccer is going to improve quite a bit in this country over the next decade. Many parents (including my wife) are freaking out about CTE and concussions in football, so they'll be steering their kids towards soccer and other sports. It's a pretty huge increase in the talent pool.
soccer gets a lot of concussions too with all those headers. I think it is number 2 or 3 (I can't remember where hockey takes place in this).

Sorry one more question - how does the US make it every time since the 80s when the health of US soccer has to be light years better in 2018? I mean what was the national team like in 1990 that they were able to make it but they can’t this year?

It's a complicated question, but I'd argue that the biggest reason is the rest of our region has gotten drastically better in the last 20 years. The US and Mexico used to be vastly better than the other nations in CONCACAF. But now Costa Rica, Panama, and Honduras can compete against anybody in the region on their day.

How many 70-7 football games do you see?

Don't those countries have other sports their good athletes might play?

We only made it in 1990 because Mexico fielded an ineligible player in a youth tournament. After that we were the host in 1994 so autoqualified. So really it's only 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 that we put in the work to qualify.

This was great.
I had this very conversation with my dad tonight. As a kid we traveled and watched Vanole et al during qualifiers. I am livid. I played, and coached in the u.s. development program. I can’t sleep this bothering me.

I laugh at the idiots out there that think that if MLS were a pro/rel league that USA would have qualified for the World Cup. Whatever your take on pro/rel is (I tend to be against it), it's an idiotic take. Whether MLS is pro/rel or not is not the reason why MLS is a substandard league - the reason why MLS is substandard is because the best players in the world don't play in MLS. They all play in England or Germany or Spain or Italy or really any of the European leagues. Making MLS pro/rel won't change this fact.
