If it makes you feel any better, there's 3 lawsuits going on right now by the NASL guys, one's over divisional sanctions and Pro league standards, one's an antitrust and one in the CAS arbitration courts over Pro/Rel (specifically FC Miami/Ricardo Silva and a lower league club),
If any of those go through, it'll change soccer forever in this country.
Speaking of which, I wonder if Bradley Wright-Phillips is eligible for US citizenship yet....

Is this sarcasm? How could that in any way make anyone feel better. It won’t make soccer any better. The problem is and always be at the youth level. Those lawsuits are just about money. Sounds like youth soccer...
Because this will open up the money. If kids can start getting paid at 16 or 17 like in Europe the youth system will get a lot better.
Gunner has this right. The system is so closed now, how do we develop talent in this country. I hate to tell you this but the youth system sucks in the US. It is pay for play, they play to many games, and don't practice enough. If you get pro/rel, and start building a US version of the Euro leagues then we will be able to start paying players at a younger age, which will attract more talent, and bring the costs down for those starting out. I am in the Chicago suburbs and most clubs, cost $2k per year for 5 and 6 year olds. That is a tough barrier for entry for most families.
This is exactly right. The real issue is the little kids. It’s a system that from the beginning shoots itself by creating a tiny pool. It’s like a private club.
As a fan that bought plane tickets to Russia prior to the failure to qualify, I selected matches based on host city and have been doing research on the countries I will be watching. One is Iceland v Argentina. The way Iceland grew their system from the youngsters up is very impressive. Fully funded construction of indoor facilities for even small communities to give the average kid access to the game is a huge part of that. We need to look at their model and find areas that can be copied and implemented in the US. If a small country with a small talent pool can create World Cup level talent qualifying over European countries, there is no excuses for our struggles.
Yep. More real clubs with a ceiling that is theoretically the top of the pyramid (MLS now but hopefully something different in the future) = better for USA soccer.
I think the thing people don't realize in Europe and South America, the clubs with the young kids get paid when that player is bought/sold through the system. So if you have a Pulisic or someone who makes it to the top tier league, there is a trickle down of money to their early clubs. Now I believe in the US, that money stops at MLS if they are an MLS player before going on. So the fact that a 16 really can't be professional in the US, hurts all the players in the US, because that is less money coming in the system.
Obviously MLS likes it because then they don't have to buy players out clubs for young talent, right now they pretty much get their pick, either as their "home grown" club kid or through the draft. Fixing Pro/Rel in the US, changes the game, some of these clubs would allow small clubs anywhere in the US to have a realistic chance of making it up through the different tiers of the system, and provide the talent necessary for the US to really compete on an international level.
Also, if that became reality, don't be surprised if college sports dies sometime after. Or maybe, the ADs become clubs that form additional tiers. If pro/rel wins in soccer in the US, it will change the game for all sports. Now more free supply of players for the NFL and NBA. Athletic kids will trickle over to soccer and those leagues will be forced to adjust.

Thanks for posting that. I forgot they were playing today. Looks like a very adventurous lineup compared to what we're used to!
I know they're all kids, but man, some of them look like they belong on the local high school baseball team... excited to see them.

Sargent’s first touch for his first US goal was fantastic. Bolivia’s keeper royally f’d that up, but the way Sargent brought that down and finished it off was awesome.
Robinson on the Weah goal looked like someone found out what the right stick in FIFA does for the first time.

If MnKennie can hold down the 1 in the 4-1-4-1 I think going forward we might have a ray of hope on the horizon. Robinson just might be a left back, and Yedlin is our right back. That is some serious pace on the outside of that back line.
I wonder how many times I say "man, **** Bruce Arena" here this Summer. 1 old ass defensive mid on a ****** pitch, when all you have to do is tie, with two old and not very good center backs and a 39 year old goal keeper? With two (now) Premier League CB's sitting on the bench?
